the law

Anyone working lurchers should have the written permission from the landowner to hunt legal quarry, (i.e. rabbits and rats) and carry it with them when out hunting. Proof of Insurance, i.e. Countryside Alliance membership, should also be carried. A good relationship with landowners, farmers and gamekeepers must be maintained at all times. Note too that the police have wide-ranging powers to confiscate vehicles, dogs and other property if they suspect you are, or have been, illegally hunting.

this is at the begining of lurcher forum does this mean that they can even take your house worst case . does anyone know of any past cases where people have been caught illegaly hunting .is it recorded on your record if you say coursed a hare and killed it

Just a few points to come back on based on two points above. Your dogs etc are not classed as Livestock, therefore dogs can be confiscated by law.

With regards the comment about not needing to have written permission. That is correct in law, however having written permission makes the process if caught easier to establish that you are rightfully "working" the land you are on. It saves contacting the farmer. If you are in possetion of proof of insurance and written proof of permisson, then you will be fine. If you do not, you will have to go through a rigmarole of getting the situation sorted out.

It just makes in easier.
