Lib Dem Leader Resigns......

Recommended Posts

As befits his party's position, Tim Farron almost slipped away unnoticed yesterday - but not before delivering the most pi55 poor resignation speech ever written !

Back to his old job as a bewildered geography teacher......

The first part of his speech, the bit about liberalism, I agree with. Why we judge politicians on their personal views and not their political positions I have no idea. It's called being principled, but apparently we make every effort to expel anyone like that.

I don't care much for his or or his parties beliefs but let's face it, the whole business of him being hammered in interviews regarding his views on gays was a bit wrong.....I've yet to see sadiq Khan share his views on this subject or any other Muslim politician or group leader.

I agree !

He is entitled to hold any opinion he sees fit, but if you are open about your views you can, and should, expect to have them questioned by those who disagree with you. The same treatment isn't dished out to the likes of Mayor Khan - does he share his faith's rabid anti-gay views ? We don't know because he's never asked !

Farron was clearly seen as a soft target - wishy washy Liberal says something remotely controversial - let's rip him to bits, it's only the LibDem's !

Probably because he's always made it clear he supports gay rights and even made supporting the LGBT community one of the main planks of his platform when running for Mayor...

Such a big deal was made over Farron because he kept trying to dodge questions on it.

I agree BGD, he was asked the question as they knew he followed a certain book but also championed the gay thing that his book is so against.

Sadiq Khan also holds his book close to his heart and I'm pretty sure there's a few gays who live in London.

Just for the record, I don't mind a gay.......as long as he brings his own lube!

No interviewer would dare ask mr Kahn his views on a bit of bumming.

I was actually talking about Sadiq, he's always supported gay rights and made that a big part of his Mayoral campaign. He was asked the same sorts of questions as Farron but because he didn't dodge the questions and gave the "right" answers the press moved on and he got a lot of support from the gay community.

Personally I think this whole "scandal" has been totally manufactured as an excuse to force Farron out after a dismal election performance. It's not like his views on gays are a new thing, everyone has known about them for years and to be fair on him he's never let his personal views on the subject effect how he votes, I mean he voted in favour of gay marriage hardly the actions of a raging homophobe!

I don't think he was forced out, he was just to much of a wet fart to fight his corner, if you look at the other end of the political scale would you say farage has had an easy life in politics? every single angle of his public and private life have been put under the microscope and the media have had twenty years of trying to discredit him, but he believed in what he was fighting for and was willing to take the death threats ,assaults and one sided tv interviews, as the saying goes cream rises to the top but shit always ends up on the bottom, he was just another wishie wishie leftie that ran for cover at the first obstacle, good riddance to bad rubbish
