hello people i have a 10 month old lurcher x dog he is a collie, whippet, greyhound, bull in fawn stunning dog will be very tall and strong but also very quick and nimble superb temprement excellent on, off lead very faithful both his mother and father are excellent workers, he is my first lurcher as i am relativly new to hunting so i dont really have a clue how to train him and my experienced hunter friend just does not have the time, so i am loooking to swap for a working (on lamp also) lurcher any age would prefer same sort of cross as mine but anything considered might be asking a lot but thought i would as my dog is a cracking dog and shame for him to go to waste as i wont be able to train him please call, pm or text me with any questions thanks in advance scott 07864198056 please click the link for a pic

i agree aswell , if he is as keen as you say then slip him .... if your taking him out with another dog that he is watching work i dont see why he wont start chasing on his first run .

good luck with him he is a nice looking dog .

i think you should start doing the basics with your dog make it sit stay that sort of thing and get off your arse and take it out and let it have a run and train it to come back to you, if you keep taking it out it will learn and its a lurcher and its instincts will tell it to run if anything moves in front of it

give it a go because that dog could turn out to be a good dog and because you think you cant train it and dont do anything with it you will never find out so get its lead on and go and run it

If your dogs coming back no problem take it out on the lamp by your self.. just walk it up to a sitter give it a couple of runs and take it home agin.. dont run it with your pals dog it wont do it no favours

i would stick with him, training is half the fun! when it all comes together and he starts picking up and bring rabbits to you it will be worth it.......you may have to cross a few hurdles but a bit of effort and time will pay off in the long run. my lurcher was a late starter and very frustrating, many would have given up but i knew she had it in her as she was so keen.......wouldnt be without her now. good luck

I have very little knowledge on this subject compared to most the peeps on here, but few years ago i had a whippet given me for the same reason the owner couldnt be assed to train it,i spent few weeks learning basics then took her out alone walked upto a squatter, when it moved she knew what to do (its what they are bred for) few runs caught her first rabbit.. job done in 3 weeks of having her.

bring him on the lamp let him see squaters and see what he does..keep with him give him some basic training like to sit, retrieve and call back to make him just everytime u go to feed him don't give it to him till he sits push he bum down while telling him sit do that for a week then after a week just say sit don't give him the food till he sit and when he doe's rub him and feed him...and with retrieving at start find a tight long area like a hall way or if u have a side alley to your house that has a gate blocking it just somewhere that if u through it the only way out is past you through it call him back and when he comes to u or in your direction take it rub him pet or what u could is give him a small treat do that for five minutes a day for around two weeks then start on open field when your walking him this will help alot to with his call back.......

cheers "TheBoyHealy"

Thanks for all the advice lads, i will try it straight away
