Foxtrot 24
This is the father of the pup and a damn fine dog. Hes 9 years old now and has had to take the back seat over the last few years because hes basically worked himself into the ground (pardon the pun!!) I havent worked him for a couple of years due to one thing and another...but I put him out to stud back in April and got a pup off him as payment and he's produced a cracker! Having the pup now has given me the appetite to get back out working the terriers again and doing what they do best. Heres the pup, a right handful at the moment, he'l be 7 months next week. I had him and the old man out last weekend, just excersising really, but marked a mink in the river bank. Unfortunately I didnt have a spade with me, and the older dog couldnt push on as it was so tight, but the pup was showing real interest and sticking his head down the hole and wimpering to the punjent smell of the mink. I hope to get them back down to the same hole this weekend, but with a spade!! I think a mink would be ideal quarry for a pup at that age, as it would not be too overpowering, but at the same time would give him the idea of what life as a working terrier is all about?? Any comments or experiences on whether a mink would be suitable for a dog at that age would be much appreciated. Quote Link to post

Guest pip
If it was me i would nt give a mink yet as they can fight like mad and are no easy push over for pups,a good terrier will make short work but if it was me id be thinking of rats. Quote Link to post

Foxtrot 24
Patman- I agree the little shit should have had a slap for that. I certainly wont be putting my dog in a wheelie bin. Think il be taking the older dog down after the mink and just let the pup have a look and see what its all about. The mink certainly wont be too much for my older dog! Quote Link to post
