Guest bobthedog
Hi there. New member, expat Brit now living in Manitoba, just South of Winterpeg. I have only recently started buying firearms again, as it was so much hassle in the UK and I didn't bother here for a while. I am trying to introduce my wife and son to the joys of hunting, but it is taking a while. When I can get my paws on a nice, light 410 I will probably have more success. Guest bobthedog
Thanks for the welcome. The weather has been pretty fair here. A few doses of snow to bury the lights in the garden, and it was quite cold for a while, down to about -28 at night and maybe -20 as a daytime high. Ideal for seeing what is moving around in the woods and fields. It's been milder for a few days, getting up to about -10. We get the deer in the back, as there are 3 acres of woods at the back of our patch, and they are getting hungry enough to come up by the house looking for food. I am feeding them a bit so they get comfortable, then I can get three deer tags next year if I acquire a bow and a muzzleloader to go with the centrefire. We have had the coyotes around a little, too, but they are a bit smart at the moment because there are so many dead deer on the roads so they aren't really hungry yet. Also, there is a Timberwolf around right at the moment. They are unusual this far south but are getting more plentiful, the same as cougars. You don't need tags for them, but they get a bit funny if you aren't a stockkeeper so I may have to get a couple of goats. I am currently educating my wife and son with LR 22s. I have a lovely Savage bolt action which I prefer, but they like the Marlin 795. My son has his own, a Henry Mini Bolt, and is getting quite handy with it. I won't let my wife loose on the centrefire I have, A Remington 710 in 30-06, but she is using a 20 guage fairly confidently. I don't think she wants to hunt, but at least she will be able to frighten the bears away in Spring.
