mad4digging 663
I only ever seen dogs with their noses damaged from work like that. I was chatting to a young chap at a show recently he had a russell with no nose left he said it only effects the dog few hours after a dig Quote Link to post
neil cooney 10,416
Not jumping on any band wagon as I've no problem with bull in terriers, just those who think they know where it is ,when it isn't ,LOL. 17 years is a long time in most family of terriers and any blood added back then is not something I'd be blaming on a current problem. But, it's you that has the family of terriers, not me, but in anyones lines I'd find it hard to believe that bull blood would introduce wind issues. Quote Link to post
bull mcabe 595
Rat face I have a bitch here that doesn't have what you'd call breathing issues as such but grunts like a pig in everything she does. Her mother was the exact same she and was dug to till 9 nears old and wasn't a soft bitch by any standards and was probably the best bitch I've bred . Hopefully that gives you a bit of relief to hear. I can only speak from my own experience and as I said before its not ideal but keeping those types very fit and lean definitely helps. Squirrel_Basher 17,100
It's not a wind problem ,nothing wrong with heart or lungs just a slight deformity in the nasal cavity .Intake of breath irritates ,that I do know ,causing what's called reverse sneezing back the other way resulting in the noise associated .I've never known a dog be any lesser for it BUT fitness and weight or lack of and too much of are probably the greatest factors to trigger the symptoms . Edited to say I don't think any one breed is responsible for it ,it's the product of breeding tight in any line though the terrier breeds seem more prone .I've seen it in all types from all lines . 1 Quote Link to post
dillydog 8,463
I've seen a few with an elongated soft palate, they're usually ok in their work as long as they're fit and it's not hot. It's a very simple operation at the vets to sort out, every vet is different so it's no good guessing at the cost 1 Quote Link to post

rippem 455
I had a pitbull that had big vocal cords and because of that she would grunt like a pig when it got hot out or when she was over exerting herself. There was a few times i thought i was gonna loose her because of that. Went in and had them trimmed and it helped her. 1 Quote Link to post
