Crows will mob ANY bird of prey from merlins to eagles but need the high ground to do so .Birds of prey rarely engage in conflict as a damaged bird is a dead bird .

Walshie sent me a link to the buzzard he seen .......   https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=sparrow&prmd=ivn&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwijnojMi5_UAhXMKcAKHSxQDLcQ_AUICSg

Bit of a difference I think you'll agree ......

that video is not a good example but a buzzard can hover the same as a kestrel ,I was watching one the other day in my field flapping its wings like a kestrel

that's not a very good example either to be honest ,the one iwas watching the other day was about 30 feet off the ground and staying in one spot for about 45 seconds
Not as graceful as a kestrel but you can't deny it...it's hovering

I think there is a bit of confusion over capability & style. The kestrel has evolved to hunt in such a way to predate on voles & mice, Barn Owls will also hover, but lower. As I've said, a goshawk can do it, but it's not it's preferred style.....neither is the Buzzards most common form of predating/finding food is to hover, but they can, under the same conditions as a kestrel, but maybe not as long.....

Forget humming birds...haha...

I find it strange were even debating it as I see them do it all the time and would have thought it was a common sight through out the country
