Gravy 18
How do you deal with red ants? Got them outside at home, they are destroying my lavender and aubretia plants by nesting in the root system. Over last 2 years have tried to dig out them out only for some others to return. Have also tried petrol - fun but does not get them deep down Gels seem not to work, as reds I believe are primarily protein eaters and not sugar like the black ants. Limited success with Ficam W, as nests are way down deep and plentiful. Dust would get wet. Any miracle solutions, please? Quote Link to post

It says all ants but it's an American product for treating American ants? Red ants may eat it but yellow meadow ants won't. Quote Link to post

Any miracle solutions, please? found a fairly big red ants nest in my garden the other day and they had churned up quiet a bit of soil into the stones around my dog run, I'd disturbed the nest as I was pulling up some weeds and there was ants everywhere, I tried putting formidor ant gel bait down which black ants love and swarm around it instantly but the red ants were not interested one bit, went and mixed up some demand cs a micro encapsulated insecticide and sprayed the nest with just a little bit of that, went to check an hour later and there were loads of dead ants on the surface and no other ant activity around at all Quote Link to post
