Sick Hob....any Ideas?

So over the last week I have noticed something not right with my 4 year old hob. Lack of energy , little bit wobbly on back end,dull eyes and weight loss. He is eating but not alot and has diarea. So I took him to the vet last night , he wasn't sure what it was and gave him antibiotics as a cure all see if it worst sort of thing. I am having a hell of a job getting the antibiotics in him he hates it and froths at the mouth and spits it out while clawing at his mouth then crushed it up with water and tried getting it in him with a syringe which he spat most out.

 

Anyway seems much the same today, ate some egg and dry food. He just lies around all the time and am v worried, I know your not meant to have favourites but....

 

Wondered if any of you guys have seen anything similar.

Whats he eating when he does eat?

 

Have you tryed him on raw food?

 

I know someone that has 3 hobs that are abit like that at moment but there not wobbly on their back legs.

 

Eggs might make his dioreah worse.

 

Be tempted to try him on sops (warm bread n milk) but still might go straight through him.

 

Not wrong to have favourites. Ive got 5 kids. Lol

They're not fool proof and there is a wealth of experience on here that might be helpful. I'm down South and they don't get to see alot of Ferrets.

Crush anti's into fine powder mix in warm water, squirt in with syringe put it past his tongue ATB

Try them in olive oil ! Get some pro kolin for him too that will help if hes gt a dodgy belly. I would be concerned if hes got diareah it could be a blockage. Best thing to do would be to ring your local ferret rescue and ask them what vet they use as they will see more ferrets/know more .

You need to keep giving him water little and very often

I seear by royal canin convalesence powder (instant version ) its high calorie drink full off vitamins and energy mine love it aswell and can make it how they like it ! ?

Could be anything but sounds like a blockage as said from a bone etc but could be more sinister.I'd try the oil.To me theres a limit how much you spend on a ferret or any animal at the vets.If anti's don't work,I wouldn't let suffer for too long.

Can't be bone as he hasn't had any raw food for months. The vet quoted £250 for tests then still might not sort him.

Hope he pulls through for you fella... I value my little stinkers as equals to my dogs as they are the main providers of sport for them. I don't know anyone who would pay £250 to get one sorted at the vets though

But I can assure you,I would if it was one of mine...but I would deffo do my homework 1st and then double check the vet is actually experienced in ferrets and their diseases etc etc.

i give mine milky water and it doesn't seem to do them any harm.

Ferret are lactose intolerant don't give the any dairy produces mate. Soya milk is okay though.

Its good this site exists so we can all learn something new or be re-educated on something we thought was correct to later find out it was utter bollox etc etc.
