An Hour Out

Recommended Posts

A rare opportunity saw me out for a quick hour during the working week. So with work completed and family matters sorted it was a time to grab the S410 and head down to the natural hide in the hedge that would be nice and cool in this lovely weather.

The target tonight was some woodies to make a game pie. Out rabbit shooting last week I noticed that a few were coming into the pylons prior to roosting. Creeping into the hedge I spied a half-grown rabbit on the other side at just over 30 yds. Due to the height of the nettles it required a standing shot with no sticks so I was pleased to drop it cleanly with a head shot. This was placed out in the field for any corvids.

Soon a crow came in and started ripping into the rabbit, the concealment was spot on and it never saw me as I took my shot. This was left out to hopefully bring more in.

Then a couple of woodies came onto the wires and since I had already been practicing on the pylon I gave it the correct hold-under and it dropped stone dead. Later another two came into the ash tree I was hiding under and luckily one eventually decided to hop over to the pylon and this again was dropped on the spot. Just over the hour and with work early tomorrow it was time to head on.

Super. Again. Did you make that hide specifically for that small section of tele wire?

THL hunting stories have been a bit quite of late, probs due to the weather. Its just to w'arm.

Mostly natural hide as its a big hollowed out hedge in a ditch. All I really did was sit back and work out how much of the nettles to slice off to give me a letterbox view of the wires. The quarry has no idea that I'm there as it is so dark looking back into that part of the hedge.
