Shaddy93 840
I'm bored trying to get the youngest to sleep and he won't let me leave the room so bought od kill some time, iv work rough, broken and smooth coated lurchers before I'd like to say I prefer smooth coated lurchers because iv had more success with them than I have with rough or broken, however I do like a good rough coat on a dog almost like your traditional old school poachers dog of you like, any preferences? Whitebuck 145
Rough for me or at least slightly broken . Last smooth dog I had turned out to be a wank Quote Link to post
Somewhereyournot 1,117
Like you, I like a look of rough lurchers...but, the take more looking after, smell more, over heat quicker on warmer nights on the lamp, and when they cut its harder to deal with than a smooth coat. Plus a smooth coat u can appreciate the shape to them more. So for me. Smooth 2 Quote Link to post
Allan P 1,150
I have a rough coated dog and ihis coat does my head in I have bought a set of clippers and he is now and will always be a smooth coated dog. He certainly doesn't have the rough coarse hair that is one shake and dry coat. Everything sticks to it especially when he stands on his front paws doing a shite against a tree. Quote Link to post
ginger beard 4,652
a dogs coat will make no difference to hpw well it works. rough coated will feel the heat more and rough will hide a multitude or sins.sometimes thats good others it could be bad.i used to find massive scabs underneath my deerhounds coat, that whilst it was fine mostly i thought a few could of done with a stitch.just never knew they were there. smooth,my sal/bull/grey is smooth and all she's got to do is brush past a twig and she scars.scars black too.easier to treat wounds and when fit looks good. broken coated i'm not sure if you get the best or worse of both worlds above. bird 9,969
my wife always liked rough coated type dogs, and being honest when you speak to most people, who dont keep lurchers , or dont know a great deal about these type of dogs, 95 % will a lurcher rough coated racey type dog, and i did as a kid many moons ago lol . But to me a dog with one of the best coates of any breed is a lab , lab have brill coats, tough, handle any bad weather cold/wet, easy to clean , and comb . so when x back to a running dog bound to get some pups with very good coats . 3 Quote Link to post
Dinosaurs 2,107
I like rough ,broken & smooth but only if like ray says its a thick smooth coat like a lab. My new pup has a very wokley soft coat from her Saluki parentage to a rough coated lurcher so think if it doesnt get harsher as she grows it will be like taking Velcro into the field ? sandymere 8,263
Used to like a nice rough coat but these days in warmer areas overheating is one of the biggest problems so short tight coat. Quote Link to post
