bullmastiff 615
My brother sent through these pics after an Id. I thought it was a coot nest but he said its on a bench near a busyish path round a large lake. I'm surprised if it was coot as their flighty birds at the best of times! And I can't imagine a hen sitting long enough to lay with people walking past? Any ideas?
cragman 2,810
Looks like a moorhens to me. I've got a grey wagtail building in a recess on a door lock that I open every day. Same bird used it last year and raised 5 chicks. There will be an egg in tomorrow or Wednesday I'd say.
The one 8,531
A lot of folk walking past might offer better protection from predators

bullmastiff 615
Sorry for late reply, I've been in forest of Dean. Thanks guys. I did consider moorhen but their nests are usually neater with smaller grasses added to firm a 'proper' nest. I'll let him know. Cheers again.
