Squirrel_Basher 17,100
I have been trying for a decent size dog fox on a small holding for a while now but he avoids my calling ,the red, white light and has up till now been unstalkable .Last night ,i went out with josh off the site and tried again. It was perishing cold ,nearly cold enough for two hairnets but being made of better stuff we soldiered on ! The farmer is trying to establish a farm shop with free range eggs being one of the products .He has 30 or so red hens beside the shop but a fox has been worrying the hens late afternoon and has had 3 so far .Its affected the laying too . Myself and josh ,plus lamp and 243 were here to finally put an end to it .Shining the lamp around the first field ,sure enough there was charlie ,a big fluffy type of fox that i'd seen in this field many times before .He dosnt run away from the light but trots to a gap in the hedge and is through it and over the road before a shot can be fired .There is a ridge in the field that prevents me from seeing it whilst down on the bipod .Anyway ,tonight he wasnt in the same hurry and was half interested in a squeak ,possibly due to the severe cold .He went over a dung heap and sat up to watch our steady approach. When 90 yards away ,i darn't get any closer and set up for a shot .The shot was good and i was one releaved chap . Very pleased with this as you can imagine so made our way to the truck .Josh carried the rifle back as i promised him a shot and as we got to buildings i saw a fox run out the barn that we rat in and it ran over a rubble pile .I squeaked softly and it appeared instantly but on top the heap ,inline with the village .Another soft squeak and it jumped half way down the heap poviding josh with a close ,safe shot .He never let me down and nailed another dog although a lot smaller than the previous one .Up til now, 2 foxes have never been seen on this place let alone shot so well pleased .Placed the bodies outside the shop door as i know farmer will be as pleased as we were . Deker 3,478
Brilliant... there is always a feeling of satisfaction when it comes together. I took a very ordinary one last Thursday.... but that coat is really thick now. My Foxcaller just arrived from Vermin Dropper (first one I've ever had). I was out last night pretending for all my worth that I was a poorly rabbit waiting to be eaten but not a sniff. There are definately at least 2 more around this land so I'll keep trying. Cheers Deker Quote Link to post
