Hw97K Tune Up North

Hello all, I've returned to air gunning in recent months and got myself a HW97KT synthetic/stainless. Tis a joy to shoot and am regularly bagging bunnies and pigeons at the 30/40 yard mark. Trouble is I keep reading about how much better these beauties perform after a tune and the poor quality modern weihrauch cut springs (she is quite twangy). I hear a lot of you guys recommend SFS and Welsh willy, but are there any reputable tuners up in Yorkshire that I could use? Alternatively how taxing is it to perform a tune yourself? Is it to be recommended for novices, albeit fairly handy ones, like myself?

First off Guy there a top class rifle one of the best iv had that many iv lost count

 

some of the kits are top of there class as well ,now the 97 is easy to work on your self SO DONT GO BLOWING MONEY ON SOME ONE ELSE DOING IT .

 

do it your self plenty of utub vids out there for you to follow

 

Why pay some one like sfs or the likes £150+ for some thing you can do your self .

 

If its twangy and its not been touched since new she will need all the old factory grease taken out and replaced with new

 

This will remove the twang and make the cocking cycle smooth

 

Now if the old grease has hardened up this can coarse the spring to snap so its a must that the new grease is put in soon ,

V,MACH ...i love these kits and if you get the full kit it comes with ,,,v,mach piston seal,,,spring,,,,sleeve,,,,and every thing you need to fit it .

 

WELSH WILLY ,,,,FULL KIT ,,,THE SAME AS ABOVE

 

and its the same with most other kits to

 

BE WARNED KITS HAVE A HABIT OF UPPING THE POWER OVER 12FP

 

AND SOME ADJUSTING IS REQUIRED TO BRING IT DOWN TO UNDER 12

 

Some times its just as good to re,grease and polish the internals IE,,,PISTON ,,SPRING ENDS,,,CHAMBER..THEN RE,GREASE ,

 

THIS WILL REDUCE RECOIL ,,,COCKING WILL BE SMOOTHER...AND NEXT TO NO NOISE WHEN COCKED AND REMOVE THE TWANG.

 

GIVE IT AGO YOUR SELF HONEST YOU WILL BE AMAZED AT HOW EASY IT IS

Nice one, thanks for the advice Big Mac. I think you've given me the confidence to look in to doing the tune myself. You reckon V Mach's are the one to go for then?

Scrap that last question, im sold on the v Mach having done further research. I'll get one ordered once some invoices come in and report back once fitted. Cheers

Thought i'd let you know how I got on:

Had an unexpected day off yesterday and so thought I'd polish the internals as you recommended, degrease and regrease. All went smoothly, and you're right they are very simple to work on. When I opened the gun up, the top of the piston seal was absolutely covered in grease, cleaned it all up and carefully regreased taking lots of care to not get any on the top of the seal. Put everything back together. Fired the rifle and it was smoking heavily and the action was not as smooth as id hoped, stripped it down again, piston seal was again absolutely covered in grease! I was very sparing with the moly in all parts. Regreased some parts that I was perhaps too lenient on and put it back together again. Still dieseling. Does this suggest to you that the piston seal needs replacing? Followed rebuild and polish to the letter and was sparing with lubricant.

Also, rather annoyingly while I was out of the room the cat knocked the rekord trigger unit off the table on the second rebuild, sods law the impact bent the catchment for the safety, and now the safety is not operating smoothly. Does anyone have a picture of a rekord trigger unit from a side on view, showing the safety catchment area? I will try to rebend it back in to alignment at some point.

sOUNDS TO ME THAT IT DOSE NEED A NEW SEAL

 

GREASE SHOULD NOT BE GETTING IN FRONT OF THE PISTON

 

AND IF ITS STILL DIESELING THERE IS STILL TO MUCH GREASE ON THE SPRING

 

YOU SHOULD USE A LUBE ON THE PISTON AND NOT GREASE

 

IM OFF SHOOTING JUST NOW SO ILL GET BACK TO YOU BUD

All sorted now thanks to the help on the forum, JonJons pictures allowed me to reset the trigger unit correctly and Jimmy's advice and very generous supply of lubricant has sorted it all. Many thanks everyone.

Now to get her zeroed tomorrow and get back on the bunnies.
