WILF 47,344 Posted May 11, 2017 Report Share Posted May 11, 2017 removing yourself from the system is fine and i understand that and would do so myself if i had the means, but that doesnt change the system for the rest of us. teaching then power of free thought is what any parent should do for their children, but that in itself doesnt change anything. how do we create an alternative? at present we have a process where an mp can be elected by just one voter if everybody else boycotts the election. as we have seen in the past, any parties which might aspire to representing any kind of populist vote are quickly destabilised and brushed away Imho mate not enough people want it to change or even give it a second thought......they read the paper, they watch the news, they watch benefit street......they get told what to fear, love, hate and vote accordingly. I voted with my feet. It's not just about teaching the power of free thought it's about teaching them to critically think and problem solve based on the facts. That will change things as they'll participate. Creating an alternative system would be extremely difficult and would require an armed revolution. I don't see that happening. That is the quickest way. Fixing the existing system is the longer, more winding, path. That requires participation. Lack of participation is the current problem, as I see it. Getting voters to the polls to make British democracy work for the people instead of the oligarchs. I honestly don't know how to do that other than teaching anyone that will listen the importance of participating. The good news is that younger generation seem to be more engaged with the process. They're genuinely concerned with what they see in the world and are looking for solutions to problems. The bad news is that we may not like the results they present as they're generally more liberal and tolerant. Horrible words to use on this forum. I'm not sure of the British demographics, with younger voters, anymore but I do know that the 18-25's in the US wanted Bernie Sanders in. When he dropped out they switched to Hillary and got her the popular vote. As older voters die off, younger voters replace them. Donnie's got an uphill struggle in his mid-terms as more concerned voters will be old enough to vote. I don't pay as much attention to skin colour, as most on here do. I'm really not concerned with the levels of melanin in the hair, eyes, and skin, of the subsequent generations. My dreamland in the sticks was a lot cheaper than what you're used to. My cost of living, generally, is a lot lower than anything I ever encountered in the UK. If I sold up tomorrow and moved back to the UK I wouldn't be able to afford a taxi from the airport. I understand that but I didn't want to live my life raising my kids and animals on a shitty council estate, in Manchester. I took the economic migrant way out and left to work elsewhere. I paid a fortune in taxes and living expenses and I refused to support a system that would sooner fart in my general direction. At least here I can afford to live. Question to you both. My position was accept the situation, or change the situation. I opted for the latter. I miss aspects of the old country but I get to spend time doing everything I love.
