Shaddy93 840
For me when bringing a pup on the most important start to a working dogs life is to let he or she be a pup I don't do any training or anything until there atleast 4-5-6 months depending on the dog, at 11 weeks old the bitch I kept back get a little lead work once or twice a week at the most the main thing at this stage for me is playing and giving them good food. What about everybody else? 4 Quote Link to post
jake824 517
Lovely pups. I take mine out as soon as their jabs kick in and show them as much as possible i.e. Stock , travelling , hounds , terriers, walk them with the gun , let them get through fences etc. I have a 8 month old bitch that's marking earths already they re not worked just taken out everywhere I go. I even get the Mrs to take em up the school just to get them socialised. 3 Quote Link to post
Shaddy93 840
Nice one, I have had them in the van going short journeys since they were around 3 weeks old I have them round the kids a lot too but when it comes to the outdoors I tend to hold them back Quote Link to post

About 4/5 months let them start walking with the older dogs and seeing what's what. Bringing on a pup in the summer is ideal they can be out whenever you fancy and play. Quote Link to post

Maximus Ferret 2,063
I take mine out before jabs are finished, carrying them to the car and going some where in countryside where other dogs are unlikely to go. I realize there is some risk here ( from foxes, straying farm dogs etc.) but prefer to get going with bonding and recall ASAP. Recall is easy and natural at that age as the pup is still afraid of being left behind. I do agree about letting them be a pup. No pressure at that age but they can still learn through play.
