The old mk1 97's are the standard mate. The look of um is so how underlever air guns should look. I'd have one in a heart beat. Just not a multi colored one... If thats in twenty two as well, I second macs comment... it'll piss on the fire of ya 177's. Mine does. 1 Quote Link to post
eastcoast 4,141
This one has lived in my gun safe for 30 years. A Webley Omega .22 Carbine purchased when new for the princely sum of £99.99. I found the introduction of the rifle a bit of a pleasant surprise. At the time it looked to me as though the British air rifle manufacturing industry was about to follow our car and motorbike industry down the pan. The same mistakes seemed to be being made in that the same tired old designs were being churned out with build and material used sometimes of dubious quality. The foreign opposition, namely German, were leaving us in their wake. Then Webley did something decidedly un-British, they looked at products that their competitors were producing and more or less copied it ! The barrel lock, the attempt to produce a fully adjustable 2 stage trigger, a stock with a scope friendly high comb and prominent cheek piece together with a palm swell on the pistol grip. Added to that machine cut chequering and factory fitted sling swivels were a nice touch. Good quality bluing and decent build quality to boot. Not a bad effort. But I never really took to it. It was TOO German. I have always liked the look, feel and balance of British rifles and shotguns. Yes on paper, particularly with air rifles the German product was superior but in reality I have always shot better with a British rifle. Not for jingoistic or patriotic reasons, they just suit me better. Mates at the time with their HW 77's and 80's looked down on my Airsporter but the rabbits never benefitted from such snobbery. The Omega was almost as good as the German guns but not for me. Yet I have kept it all this time. I have a sneaking respect for what Webley were trying to achieve. As for the demise of the British air gun manufacturing industry ? Well...how wrong was I ! 4 Quote Link to post
mark williams 7,557
I had the Omega many moons ago, proved to be a fine rifle indeed. My preference was the 127 FWB Sport at the time. Yep, great rifles the old Omegas atb Mark Quote Link to post
eastcoast 4,141
It did get some use Mark. Mostly lamping rabbits and there was absolutely nothing wrong with it. Just not for me. A good effort by Webley though at the time. 1 Quote Link to post
