WILF 46,684
Financial bonds are traded not only on the back of people who can pay but also on the back of people who can't pay. In the crash of 2008 bond traders were trading sub prime mortgage debt, they were selling them as AAA rated (endorsed by the likes of Standard & Poor as AAA!!) then betting against them once sold. It was win/win........and nothing has changed. These same companies are advising governments on policy and financing the Harvard business professors who are teaching the next generation to do the same........what chance does the badly educated 20 year old off some council estate in Yorkshire have against such forces? His life is mapped out and anything he may generate is already spent !

WILF 46,684
And yet, in society awash with money......food banks exist and what's more they can't keep up with demand. That is disgusting. But who are they? People spunking their benefits on tags and sky? I'm just not seeing it....I'd like to meet these people, look at there finances and even look if they have the intelligence to shop and cookDon't beleive the hype That's just it...I don't believe the hype...the hype about people struggling...I genuinely don't see it. My mate does those voluntery agreement things, helping people with debt...he says he rarely comes across a debtor who he didn't think is a cock...not just sky but full package, not just a pet but two staffies or rockweilers, not just a credit card for emergencies but one for holidays. I know people struggle...always have done..but why should I with tinnitus and arthritis from working feel sorry for fuckwits. It's not the Tories it's personal decisions that are to blame Why we don't have shoeless orphans and chimney sweep walking the cobbles in every town and city make no mistake some folk out there are genuinely struggling. The point I think (with respect) you are missing is that this debt spiral is positively encouraged and indeed engineered......the whole system is set up to put people in debt and the tax burden is so huge (be that direct or stealth) that people will never be out of it............so, one slip and they are bang in trouble. All the while the governors of Morgan Stanley walk away with $200 MILLION bonuses and its drinks all round at No.10, Brussels and the Whitehouse.........meanwhile down the road some poor c**t is having to beg for a tin of beans to feed the kids. That's disgusting........ It's easy for your pal to c**t off people trying to set up an IVA......at least they are trying, maybe they should go skint instead and put your pal out of a job......see how quick the mortgage and tax man come calling wanting the pound of flesh off him I wonder if he could make his last quid stretch to paying all them and feeding his kids? Maybe he could ask the boss of Morgan stanley ? Lol There but for the grace of God matey. And yet we have an obesity epidemic! Which is especially prevalent in the working class and children. There are far more adults making very bad choices,to put it politely, than genuine victims of circumstance imo. I have a theory, it may be bollocks but I can only go by what I have seen....... My old town is what you would call a commuter town, so every morning thousands of people pile on the train at 6 or 7 am.........they then get off the train at 7 or 8 pm.......they do this 5 days a week. Mums and Dads both have to work because things are so expensive, a 3 bed semi will set you back 300k....... So what do they do?........they pick up some take away because they dont have time to cook a meal or they buy some processed bang it in the oven shit from the Tesco (conveniently located by the station!!) They are all eating shit because of the financial demands placed on them........so busy trying to keep up that they can't live properly. As I say, it may be bollocks but it's what I saw it as.

His life is mapped out and anything he may generate is already spent ! I get what you're saying. I just find it difficult to have sympathy for anyone that cops out for their own lack of due diligence, shall we say. Credit and debt are great tools for folks savvy enough to use them. I struggle to get on board with wanting to regulate anything frankly, particularly to protect people that can't be arsed to take responsibility for their actions. I don't know anybody that is genuinely a victim so I would hate to just generalise for the sake of those genuine few. The folks I do know seem to think they 'deserve' a certain standard of living and that credit is like rain, it just falls freely from the sky! I've got a real issue with folks not taking responsibility and instead thinking it's societies job to look out for them. And yeah, that includes the investment bankers. LOL. My libertarian ideology is the more responsibility we give back to the individual the more communities choose to support each other (like Scots good deeds), rather than be forced to through tax by the state further breaking our natural charitable nature.

Probably a bit of truth in that, but turn off the TV,disconnect the internet, delete your facebook profile and see how much more time you have. Not you personally, but some people women especially are addicted to this stuff. I've over committed before now, with work and other things, when it comes to getting rid of other things to save time, quality food for my kids would not be the top of the list I can tell you!
WILF 46,684
Neems and Born, out of likes but I pretty much agree with most of the above couple of posts. Born, all I will say about credit raining from the sky is.......it does mate! And they want people on the welfare imho A man with his own money and free of debt is a pretty hard creature to manipulate.
desertbred 5,490
Poverty is a man made tool there is abundant wealth in the world the problem is Society for thousands of years have had the view that the strongest can accumulate all the wealth, they can take all the resources they desire and then call it politics which basically means the elite/educated f***ing over the less strong or the less educated.. You do what is within your means to do provide for your family help out others where you can , but basically for example if you cant provide for your family then why carry on breeding, around the world it appears to be a have today society and f**k tomorrow, credit is a way of life promoted by the haves to cut even more wealth from the have nots, suck it up and do what it takes like the old saying if your in a hole stop digging. I hate shopping, but I love bargain hunting ! The yellow label mark-downs have saved us a fortune over the years - last night I picked up five 1lb bags of Jersey Royals....for the princely sum of 55p ! Blanched immediately and now sitting in our chest freezer. I've got a bone box in the freezer - I use them to make stock for soups or stews, or just to put on the dogs food. A couple of times a year, I'll buy up a load of cheap, over-ripe fruit and turn it into wine. There's lots of little things you can do that make a big difference - all aimed at keeping my limited money in my pocket !
Paulnix 426
I know exactly where you are coming from I was thinking a similar thing the other day and I come from a very similar background to you. I had a couple years back when I was starting out on my own with a new family that were really hard we never had a pot to piss in but with some hard work I've ended up in a fairly decent position nothing grand but I'm happy... When times were tough I'd do any work going I worked for a tenner a day some days coz a tenner was better than nothing .. I had my air gun and fed the kids on rabbit and swapped rabbits for veg with a old fella of the allotment... Can't imagine today's lot doing that lol.. This was 1988/89 after the yuppie crash....seems people think that they are owed a existence nowadays. To me that is the definition of poverty, feeding the family on what you have to forage for yourself or bartering, between the wars and even up to the early 80's heard my Grandfather and father both say the you know you are in real poverty is when you are struggling to feed your self and you find that someone has dropped a brace of rabbits by your door, do that now and you'd be had up for it.
