They don't teach cooking in schools anymore. My mum, me and my niece all went to the same school, obviously years apart. My mum had a weekly cooking and house work class....she still cooks meals she learnt then....and will often tell us anytime she sews something or bakes how she learnt. Years later I had 'home economics' class...six weeks of risk assessments and flow charts before being asked to choose a meal to cook from a list of ethnic food. I told em to stick it and didn't cook any wog food. My niece did 'food tech'. Six weeks of bollox same as me before being asked to bring in a ready made cake and ready made icing and decorating it in class.

 

It's no wonder families don't know how to shop and eat.

If you want to work and have a pleasant life it's there for you. People make their own choices. Some spend their lives in pubs, some turn to drugs and then there's the ones that lay about all day eating junk food, playing on their xbox and buying shite from brighthouse etc and also the contract phones. Not all do.f***ing reality tv to blame for that misconception. I have a mate who is bringing up his 8year old son by himself after his wife f****d off.He works part time and by f**k he works hard for min wage .He cant do full time cz of the wee man.

He barely makes ends meet. His washing machine packed in was told they couldnt help cz he works.I shit you not he was told if he had been released from prison or was claiming dole they could. After he pays the bills and buys food and a weekly bus ticket to get to work he has 30quid left! Even less when he to start going to laundrette with his and his kids washing.

 

I visited him 6month ago he had a shitty portable tv.f***ing felt for them. So next day took him into town told him to pick out a washing machine and telly and id pay for it.

I used to pay the money into his acount but because he gets help with his rent and has to hand in his wage slips they cut his money cz of the extra i pay in!

I now pay it into my nephews and he gives him it.

Hes not a sponger and he better off if he didnt work, but as he told me i dont want to 9set a bad example to the wee man by not working. He does his best for him and his kid.The wee mans a credit to him aswell. Loves his dad to bits and polite and respectfull

 

It's good you're helping the fella out,I would too if it was my mate,but I wouldn't see him as a victim of circumstance.

He married a horrible c**t,the type of woman who'd abandon her child.

 

If that had have happened at any other time in history he'd be in a far worse situation,that's why marriage was sacred and families often arranged or at least had to approve of the partner beforehand.

People think all of that tradition's pointless these days,it exists for our survival.

When I were t'lad, we were so poor, we couldn't afford to quote comedy sketches !

 

Joking aside, I don't think there's enough basic life skills, passed on from parents.....

 

My dad was pretty useless, so it fell to my sainted mum to teach us the ways of the world.

 

She taught all 4 of us to wash, cook, iron and sew - I can even still knit to a passable standard ! I don't ever remember her not working and all she ever claimed was child allowance, as it was called back then. We baby-sat the youngest, while she went to one of her three jobs, and all of us mucked in together to get by (except my dad). "I've got to go to work, the baby needs changing, your dad will be home at 6" was a frequently heard mantra.......

Wasting food was almost a capital offence, and you ate what you were given.

 

But the whole point of it was to make us independent, able to look after ourselves, to hear the hardships of life......and I thank her for it !

That's just it...I don't believe the hype...the hype about people struggling...I genuinely don't see it. My mate does those voluntery agreement things, helping people with debt...he says he rarely comes across a debtor who he didn't think is a cock...not just sky but full package, not just a pet but two staffies or rockweilers, not just a credit card for emergencies but one for holidays. I know people struggle...always have done..but why should I with tinnitus and arthritis from working feel sorry for fuckwits. It's not the Tories it's personal decisions that are to blame

Why we don't have shoeless orphans and chimney sweep walking the cobbles in every town and city make no mistake some folk out there are genuinely struggling.

The point I think (with respect) you are missing is that this debt spiral is positively encouraged and indeed engineered......the whole system is set up to put people in debt and the tax burden is so huge (be that direct or stealth) that people will never be out of it............so, one slip and they are bang in trouble.

All the while the governors of Morgan Stanley walk away with $200 MILLION bonuses and its drinks all round at No.10, Brussels and the Whitehouse.........meanwhile down the road some poor c**t is having to beg for a tin of beans to feed the kids.

That's disgusting........

Its a high street chain store.... They will have say a TV that's costs £300 in other shops

 

They will retail it for say £500.... Advertise weekly payments of say £2.50 over God knows how many years

 

Then you end up paying £900 in the end for a TV that should only cost £300
