Ferret Hutch Made Out Of Wood Or Welded Steel ?

Recommended Posts

hi lads ,

was thinking about a new and bigger ferret hutch

what would most of you prefer , wood or steel , ofcourse both with wooden nestbox

wood is light and easy to work with

steel is heavy , but solid and would last for years and years to come , and steel does not absorb any smel and urine and so on ,

personaly i can do both , so that is not the issue .

indeed i'm thinking of building a court , i have a nice garden so that wil be no problem , but the hutch is more a breeding hutch ,

Just make a nice looking wood 1 Kenny if I was you.

Ive got 1 of those plastic hutches in my shed with the jill in there and a litter of kits.nice and quiet in the shed.

Here's a pic of my court.

Steel will be hotter on summer, colder / freezing in winter ans is more likely to get wet inside through condensation etc.

There is a reason nobody has steel hutches.

Having an insert, of sorts in the toilet corner that you can slide out for cleaning or using angle iron for the basic framework and ply panel inside it would make a good hybrid cage that will last well and when a panel starts rotting you can simply replace the one piece.
