kenny243 54
hi lads , was thinking about a new and bigger ferret hutch what would most of you prefer , wood or steel , ofcourse both with wooden nestbox wood is light and easy to work with steel is heavy , but solid and would last for years and years to come , and steel does not absorb any smel and urine and so on , personaly i can do both , so that is not the issue . king 11,972
If you can do away with the hutch. And build a court. Easier to clean. More room for the ferrets. Ramps.pipes etc in for them. Keep there minds active. Quote Link to post

The one 8,482
As long as its dry and there out the wind it doesnt matter what its made from but metal will get hot on a warm day ? Quote Link to post
Aussie Whip 4,105
I'd go steel, might take more effort in building but as said cleaning and its longevity far outways the effort,as also said needs to be shaded in hotter months, over here anyway. Quote Link to post
Jax13 251
Steel will be hotter on summer, colder / freezing in winter ans is more likely to get wet inside through condensation etc. There is a reason nobody has steel hutches. Having an insert, of sorts in the toilet corner that you can slide out for cleaning or using angle iron for the basic framework and ply panel inside it would make a good hybrid cage that will last well and when a panel starts rotting you can simply replace the one piece. 1 Quote Link to post
