slipstream 0
I am looking at a rifle for pest control have used springers in the past but never PCP or Gas Ram. Firstly should I even look at PCP or are Gas Ram a good alternative, are either a step to fast so should I just get a high quality springer? Are PCP a pain to re gas and how expensive is it to regas? I am looking at Theoben SLR 98, Air Arms 410 Carbine. I would prefer multishot and low weight any other suggestions on alternative rifles for hunting. Cheers Quote Link to post
stubby 175
pcp, expensive to start with, although can always buy second hand, but cheap as chips, once you have all the kit, I have a S410 .22 TDR cost around £800 with the charging bottle etc, but the bottle only costs around a £5 to refil from a divers shop, and probably get a good 500-800 refils of the gun from that, its good having a multi shot when doing pest control, takes out rabbits with ease, very light too Quote Link to post

Assuming a minimum of 500 refills, and say 1 a week, that would mean 10 years before you need the bottle topping up. Put another way, you will never charge the bottle as it will only ever be half used at the 5 year test. On that basis and 800 refills, you talk in terms of 16 years between charges and 3 bottle tests before you drop the pressure and need a top up! Deker Quote Link to post
andy s410c 60
If you want a lightweight mutishot gun the AA s410c is just about what everybody recommends.I have owned a Rapid7 fantastic gun however i bought the 410c & i prefer it to a Rapid7.It depends how much shooting you intend to do ref charging gear get a divers bottle if you are shooting several times a week stirrup pumps are ok if you only shoot at weekends as i do.Try to handle, shoot if possible as many rifles as you can you,ll know when it feels right for YOU... Deker lol, look at the time I posted the reply, Id just got in from night work and wanted me bed, but could'ent resist looking on here the rifle will fire around 50 pellets before it gets topped up, which in the summer months could mean 6 refils a day (pest control) or at a range with mates to be honest, Ive never counted the amount of times I have the "big" bottle re-filled, but it can only be twice in the summer, which then normally lasts till the next year, as I then use a springer in winter (very little shooting) and more ferreting Quote Link to post
