Pro Pest Control..vehicle Requirements.insurance,public Liability.

Dont know how relevant this is to a pesty Vin,but I had all relevant insurances with Zurich (Im a builder),part of this was covering my tools ,equipment etc.My van got broke into one day ,over£3000 of tools were nicked,when I rang insurance to put claim in and was told "Its not like house insurance,ie new for old,you get tha value of the tools second hand,minus voluntary excess and compulsory excess" (some of thetools were less than a month old) in the end they offered me about £300,the new planer alone cost more than that a few weeks previous....Be careful what you sign up for.....mine met the legal requirement,public liability,employers liability etc but other than that wasn't worth a wank.....atb Dave

What van did you have when it was broken in to?. Was it a MK 6 or 7 Transit?.

What ever van anyone gets you MUST get an after market lock fitted. The pick for a Sprinter is Lishi HU64. VW Transporters and Audis are HU66 picks. There is already a pick out for the new Ford Transit Custom vans it's a Prodecoder HU101. But the easiest buy far to get into is a MK 6 or 7 Transit. They use Tibbe lock and it's shite. You can gain entry in to them in under 7 seconds and as there is only the one lock on the drivers door this will open the side and back doors as well. For Transit vans fit an after market barrel called a Hykee, cost you about £95 and can be fitted by yourself in under 15 mins.These can be picked but you would have to be a damn good lock smith to do it and have the relevant tools.....plus patience, a tea leadf just wouldn't bother. If you are wondering how I know this stuff it's because I do lock smithing as well as pest control, general building, natural lime plastering and chainsawing.

 

 

The little shits who did my van tried to gouge the entire lock out of the door with a screwdriver,f****d the door up,but couldn't get in.....s o they put a brick through the window and went over the bulk head....smack rats probably...you obviously have a far better class of theif where you are lol.Good info though,there will be plenty on here with Trannys.Cheers, Dave

I was working on a job in Falmouth. Went in to Travis Perkins and parked next to me was a MK 6 Tranny with bloody shed latches across each door. I asked the bloke what the crack was with the latches and he says they have had the van robbed 3 times. Each time he swears he locked the van but his boss doesn't believe him. Told him if it gets robbed again he's going to get the sack so he added the latches as extra security. I showed him how they were getting in to his van with out any sign of entry as I had my Tibbe pick with me. He was gob smacked and asked me to do it again as he filmed me so he could show his boss. At least when his boss sees the footage he won't think the bloke was telling him a load of B/S.

Tibbe pick in action. If you got a Transit and the Tea leafs have got a Tibbe then you might as well not bother locking your van. Don't forget, you can get lock picks for ANY van, in fact any vehicle!.

I do lock picking as a little side line. There are picks out there that'll get you into anything. On my front and back doors I have fitted 5 lever mortice locks. These can still be picked but you need an element of skill to do it. 'Yale' type locks are a piece of piss. I have a Klom electric pick gun and, once you have the nack, as there's a bit of technique to it, you can open almost any barrel lock. In the back of my Transit I have van vaults but I've replaced the pad locks with disc detainer locks as these are harder to pick. There are no pins in them as they use discs to operate the mechanism. Took me 25 seconds to pick the lock on my ammunition safe that's inside my Braton sounds gun cabinet. They use a 7 pin tubular lock and you can buy the picks off the net if you know where to look. Don't ever use those brass combination locks either, it's quicker to open them with a pick than with the combination if you know how to do it. Also, check your insurance will pay new for old. If they don't it ain't worth jack, you might as well just put the money you would have paid for insurance in the bank.
