Wow I'm a convert! Has anyone tried it? I know it's not permitted in the UK, but I'm sure there are some lads on here that's done it?   I dragged my family along to the Belgian hunting expo yesterda

Banned in the early 60's I believe. Not sure though. I know it's stamped on the Wildlife and Countryside Act. We were fed the bullshit that it's cruel, and with no frame of reference, I believed it, u

This is impressive, I'm sure you are well aware of this guy, but it's all new to me....;-)

If you do ever travel to try it let us know how you get on I think with practice they are handy tools seen vids of fellers shooting pheasant and geese on the wing but the dove hunting with a bow is something else never seen owt like that in me life.

Even if I do, I'm years away mate. I have to be fluent first in either French or Flemish & then pass a hunting exam. It's not like the UK here, where practically anyone can get a shotgun licence & crack on......Here, you actually have to know a bit ;-)

What does the Belgian permit consist of?

Good luck with it, itll be a great achievement ;)

I got my bow hunting ticket here, but it was like a lecture and then a bash.

I don't know specifically mate. To officially hunt anything here with a gun you need to pass the exam & that covers Bowhunting. I get the impression the exam is a broad test of hunting & fauna knowledge, which can't be treated lightly?
Did you have to outlay much for a decent Bow?
The big archery shops sometimes have great sales, there was a shop in Ottawa called Le Baron, when I went in it was closing as Cabelas had opened almost on the doorstep and they couldn't compete, they had PSE bows for sale for around $300 Canadian,at the time that was under 200 quid.

Second hand bows in a store in Ontario, lots of people trade them in for a newer model, and a really good archery store in Quebec, the lady behind the counter had taken moose, bear etc,and was an ardent archery hunter.

I can see this definitely being a little goal for me in the future.......Right now I'm outlaying quite a bit of cash on another little hunting project, so I can't see me getting away with getting a bow this year ! Haha.....

......but next year? I can see myself maybe updating this thread next summer....;-)

There must be a great feeling hunting and taking big game with a bow, be like stepping back in time and seeing how our ancestors hunted

Yes I like the idea of using primitive methods, that's one of the reasons I get such a buzz from hawking, it hasn't changed much in 6000 years!

....& I think I felt that buzz when I hit the model Mouflon with an Arrow!
