Dazzam 239
Ok, so on Monday afternoon I went up to one of my permissions to check the squirrel hoppers with the intention of taking them down. I had shot a few squirrels over them the past week and didn’t want to overdo it. After filling them up on Friday afternoon, I was surprised to find them completely empty with lots of damage done to the feeder by the squirrels looking for more peanuts. Being off work I decided to go up on Monday evening at dusk for a final shoot over them. I met the farmer who was doing some reconstruction work on his lane who asked me to start controlling the rabbits again soon as he was seeing lots of them around the place. I settled down at one of the hoppers and waited for about 15 minutes before the first squirrel of the evening showed up. He was aware of me as I wasn’t using a hide but lying on the grass about 30-35 yards away but patience paid off and his desire for the peanuts overtook his wariness for me and he was taken with a clean shot to the head. I waited for another 15 minutes or so and then checked the other hopper. As I approached the hopper I could see one feeding away at the peanuts so I got down low to the ground and slowly belly crawled in until I was about 35-40 yards away. After settling down for a few minutes i squeezed the trigger and took a nice head shot. The nerves of the squirrel carried him behind a tree as can be seen in the video. I took a walk around a few of the fields just to see what was about and couldn’t resist the chance of a couple of rabbits. Only one was recorded but it was a bit too small to include in the final picture. Heading back to the car for a final check of one of the hoppers another squirrel was taken with a nice clean head shot. I could think of worst ways of spending Easter Monday evening.
