There is a special rule for Malta to hunt turtle dove and quail as per there traditions (remember that word Tradition, I'll be coming back to it)........the bit everyone is crying about is that they sometimes stray outside the season (decided for them by the EU) and they hunt some other species that are protected.

 

We had some traditions once and animals we could hunt in line with those traditions (remember that word?).......but now they are protected.

 

Packham was nothing more than an anti with funding from a production company trying to destroy someone else's hunting.......so he can take his pat on the back and shove it up his arse !

I can't agree with that,if a species is being hunted into extinction (not saying that's the case here) then outside pressure to conserve the animal is ok by me.

 

Tradition is good and necessary,but it has to be sustainable or it's all ultimately self defeating.

I'd say loss of habitat and changing agricultural practices are the biggest single contributor to loss of populations in wild animals of all sorts.

But, every c**t wants a house, a motorway and cheap grub down Tesco so putting out a couple of fat balls and slagging off lads hunting in Malta is a bit f***ing rich for my liking !

I dont know about Malta but in Cyprus bird trapping is a horrible carry on thats looked down on by most people as being such a delicacy its only really the wealthier members of society who eat it.....im no real animal lover but it dont sit right with me somehow.

There are ways and there are ways. Packham appears to have little control over his actions, driven by inner prejudice and anger.

Conservation is everyones responsibility not just a self-centred, populist, egotist with a lisp. Packham brings nothing new to conservation - he didnt set up Africa's national parks, he's not funding anti poaching in Africa,

Never heard him mention whales, tuna etc, etc etc, He is simply focused on damaging responsible shooting.

He would and has argued that rats need protection.

So lets get off Packham being a saint - he's not, in fact the world of animal protection and conservation can manage very well enough without him.

Sadly his bank balance (and being in the public eye as part of that) is his raison detre, BBC please note.

By the way, I feed the birds, own a 1 and a half acre wildlife reserve, have all three native species of newts in my pond, geese nesting on my big pond, Ladysmock, cowslips and primroses on my smallholding not a chemical or a Packham anywhere, but I do shoot the rabbits mercilessly and the foxes when necessary.
