leegreen 2,181
I like the idea of this x. What size did they all make and do you think they would of been more bramble friendly using a smaller Bull terrier? Quote Link to post
Gaz_1989 9,539
Interesting topic I,ve seen gazs dog work,it's a decent dog......I,d have it at my house What to put it too is the question .....it's pretty much the full package as it is for a busher To a spaniel I cross if you wanted more of a shooting dog or hound cross for bigger land Cheers mate. She has come on even more since you saw her and she was doing the job then. I don't think all of the litter made as handy as her at bushing from what a few lads have said but I've only seen one other work. He was a much bigger dog, not a patch on her when it came to bushing but had other uses. That's to be expected though I suppose. They don't all make the grade. I know a local lad had one and said it worked far too close. Hardly left his side. You saw yourself how this bitch will range when there is scent about. I was out with a fella the other night mooching. He has seen 2 of the other litter mates work and said this bitch was completely different. I can't take any credit. I just let her off the lead. The blood must have just merged right. Quote Link to post

If there's something home it's coming out and sharpish. Not sure on size. I did measure her for a lad on here a while back but I forget now. I know she's about 40lb in weight. This is her next to 24"-25" lurchers to give an idea... 2 Quote Link to post

I think all the bitches threw similar size. The dog I saw was over 20" and 55lb plus. Probably getting on for 60lb. Real lump. Quote Link to post
Bosun11 537
With all due respect and deference to you Boatswain ,I think your simplifying the cross ,true its only 50% cocker ,so on paper its only 50% busher\hunter but I have seen pure bulls with excellent noses ,real prey drive and good biddability intact I have owned staffs that have made decent Busher's ,not great ,but provided sport ,I once owned a wheaten that only size prevented it from being a top class busher ,the cocker adds nose and a touch of class ,I don't want my dog to follow a line , I want it to do exactly what this x does ,work cover tirelessly ,put shit out for me ,so for certain people it is the finished article ,and the green eyes are deserved .atb Alex (and Gaz), I was simply playing the cross down, rather than bulling it up. Thats just my style with anything I work... But I know their worth and for that i'm grateful... Quote Link to post

mud 2,044
I'm new to owning a busher, been out with loads mind but never owned one before. So with a bit of a clue on half bred bull types, took a punt on one of these as my first busher. To be honest shes bags of fun and i love that little bully attitude with stuff and she looks smart too... But dont kid yourselves.. Handsome is, as handsome does... These things are only 50% cocker, thats all your busher! In my opinion they are the/a baseline to breed future, better bushers from whatever type would suit, put that over mine and you will improve on it. Not taking anything away from these little tanks, nor their creator, who for me had the forsight an balls to try such a cross in the first place but bang another busher over these an i'm sure you'll get better bushers... Save any green eyes for other types couldn't of put that in better words myself bosun, handy little knock about dogs ratting/bushing/round holes/retrieve land water.but and a big BUT when it comes to serious fox work there not the type of dogs And as the breeder of them I say it myself there not in the same league as a well worked beagle/spaniels ....but as you say the breeding was a base line for what I will be planning on in the future atb mud,ps hope rondas keeping your lurcher busy mate ?? 1 Quote Link to post
stormyboy 1,352
Put back to beagle or beagle terrier would create a good fox driving dog. What would the beagle add mate to make these better at driving fox out? You thinking of something that follows a line? What sort of distance? Yeah exactly that. Used to hunt with a pack years ago, good sport listening to them singing through the cover waiting for charlie to show. A lot of bushers don't give tongue on a line, only when sighted. My Plummer pack would bay like hell, but with beagle in the make up I would expect it. Quote Link to post
