Begging for money is sheer desperation :hmm:

You must have signed up to something and ticked the box to receive emails from the Labour party at some point, or are you a member of an affiliated union? They don't just send emails to random addresses.

All political parties are funded by donations, how else do you think they pay for campaigns? The difference between Labour and the other big parties is that the majority of their funds come from membership fees and small donations from ordinary people instead of big business and millionaires.

I think half of it comes from trade unions, some of which is a bit of a racket because everyone has to pay their union fees but don't necessarily vote Labour, I think some people can opt out now though.

Members of affiliated unions have always been able to opt out of sending part of their dues to the Labour party, the change was that now they need to opt in to sending them.

And even before those changes it was less than half of their funding that came from the unions.

and quite rightly so I think there's a lot of people who don't know where their contributions go.

It's not like affiliated trade unions ever made a secret of the fact they were affiliated with and supported the Labour party, I mean you even get a vote in leadership elections if you're a member of one! Anyone who was shocked that they also funded the Labour party can't of been paying much attention to the union they're members of.

That said I haven't really got a problem with the changes to how it's done, more transparency is always a good thing.

I agree but there are plenty of people who are utterly clueless and some of them in good jobs.

I think we need to look at funding of all political parties, those that pay the most get to push their agenda including unions and people who have huge business interests.

I would prefer that after they reach a certain size they are funded by the public purse and get the same amount or a sliding scale or something like that, not paid it much thought but I don't like the system as it stands.

It don't matter who anyone elects, the UK is somewhere between £1.7 and £4.8 TRILLiON in the shit with the debt rising at £5 THOUSAND A SECOND !! if you calculate it in the lower figure !

So based on that, the only bit I really can't get my head round is why any sane person will vote for anyone and give them a mandate to carry on with more of the same !!

Careful now, we're dangerously close to agreeing with each other again

Political funding is fecked over here, becoming more and more like America with millions being spent on elections which effectively locks out new/smaller parties. A difficult issue to tackle though for sure.

I think if you voted out on brexit then conservative is the only way to vote for this one.. Brexit is far bigger than this and if the majority of the country get behind may anything is possible.

Do you still do that if your MP is Ken Clarke? Not sure if he's the rushcliffe tory candidate as he said he was going to retire at the end of this current term and not stand for reelection. But that was assuming a normal term.

There is that lol its annoying that you could possibly be giving a knob like Clark a vote but I think at this point in the game the advantages of a strong government with the will of the people behind it far out ways the little inconveniences like ken Road tax dodger Clark.
