Peadair 27
Thanks for all the input on the CZ or Savage dilemma. I've settled on a CZ. Now, I love the look of a wooden stock but am I missing something? Do synthetic stocks add consistency or accuracy? Do they make much difference? This topic has probably been discussed before but I got a bit daunted at the prospect of trawling through several hundred pages of posts! Quote Link to post
David.evans 5,323
Synthetic for me , no need to worry about scratches, lighter , and can take a few knocks Makes no difference to accuracy 2 Quote Link to post
Peadair 27
Synthetic for me , no need to worry about scratches, lighter , and can take a few knocksfor the pot. Makes no difference to accuracy Thanks David. As an aside, Do you put your.17 and .22 to different uses. I've had a couple of friends say I shouldn't bother with the .22 and just get a .17. I will be shooting for the pot and think the .17 can be too destructive? Quote Link to post
Jax13 251
Bottom line is there won't be meat waste if you hit it in the head. The 17 is accurate enough to do it with a fairly competent shot out to 150 yards. I too like a nice wooden stock but being honest, for a field rifle it would be synthetic all the way. It won't swell if it gets damp, won't scratch or dent to the same degree, much more grippy to the touch (handy with gloves on), weight saving over wood is useful especially if you intend to run nv on top as well. 2 Quote Link to post
The one 8,479
A nice bit of wood looks nice and can make the gun but then your worried about scratches and scrapes so synthetic for me 1 Quote Link to post
David.evans 5,323
As said mate by Jax 22lr yards 17 100 /150 , and it you don't get both , you will wake up one morning feeling sorry for yourself! And besides its great fun ATB Quote Link to post
belly47 61
I have cz452's in both of the mentioned flavours and both are synthetic and wouldn't be without either. agree that wood looks better but as mentioned by others you will be less precious about a synthetic. no problem with eating shot bunnies with .17, head or heart/lung shot. 1 Quote Link to post
cwmman 3
personal chioice is what it comes down to in the end i like wood its warm to the touch & tactile giving a pleasing aesthetic appearance to the rifle if not always practical, im willing to sacrifice the damage it incurs in use in poor conditions for the pleasure it gives me personally however synthetic has its advantages. 2 Quote Link to post
Rowan 308
Definately synthetic, with a wood stock you'll worry about every mark it gets on it , plus whatever gun oil you use will effect a wooden stock. As for which calibre , that could rage on forever , but for me its .22. 1 Quote Link to post

smiffie23 67
I've got bother 22 in synthetic and 17 in a thumbhole wood. Much prefer the 17 as a thing but the 22 is miles more practical.given again my head says I'd buy the 17 in synthetic (but I prob wouldn't.. lo 1 Quote Link to post

Metalman2 45
The later synthetic models have in my view a much improved "soft touch" feel. There are also aftermarket stocks like Boyds 1 Quote Link to post
