Why,,,like Aa

Recommended Posts

just been talking to simon (pianoman) about some work on his AA,pro sport stock and we gott into the fact that AA will not make a left handed stock for the pro sport

and we then got into why hw will not make a walnut stock for the hw97

iv seen these rifles in custom walnut stocks and there stunning VM (mitch) has one and its one of the best iv seen fitted with a cs500 stock and matts new hw80 same a cs500 stock

and it got me thinking why like AA do they not fit these stocks from new as i think they would sell and sell fast

I mean come on hw its getting a bit long in the tooth now and you have not changed a thing in all the years you have made this icon of a rifle

DO YOU NOT THINK ITS ABOUT TIME SHE HAD A NEW DRESS

AND TURN THIS PRINCESS INTO THE QUEEN SHE REALLY IS

i for one would be at the rfd,s waiting for him to open so i could get my hands on one

A NICE BIT OF WALNUT TRANSFORMS A RIFLE

I agree mate

Surely a left handed sporter stock from AA only requires a tweak to an existing CNC design?

I do like a nice Walnut stock. Infact, it's probably safe to say that I'm a mug for a nice Walnut stock

...... I'd love a standard KT stock in a nicely figured bit of Walnut for my 97

You would think so Jon, particularly as the TX200 and TX200HC have been available in dedicated left-handed Beech and Walnut versions from first day of release to this one (I've had two, a TX200 and a TX200HC both in left-handed in walnut) including left-hand loading ports/actions. So why is the Pro Sport not so produced?

Okay, you can order a beautiful CS500 walnut stock from Custom Stock in Sheffield. Job done! But no, what if, like me, you want THAT stunning factory stock that beguiled you by its looks in the first place?

I sent an email to Air arms about the fact that such a beautiful and highly desired flagship rifle as the Pro Sport MUST be available to us left handed shooters. 1 in 3 people are left handed so, we are not exactly a rareity!

The response from Air Arms was, and I quote...:

"We made a total of 18 left-handed stocks with right-handed Pro Sport Actions for UK sale. 30 more went to the USA. All are now sold to private owners."

Not quite the answer I was expecting so, I asked again. This is the second response.

"To do this, we would have to buy a small quantity of stocks and this would place a considerable premium on the price of the finished rifle that people may not be prepared to pay.""!

I guess that means it's never going to happen then! :nono:<_<

Its not necessarily the woodword on the PS thats the f'kin issue... as that can be replaced. Its the side of the breech. For lefties is a right effort. Why dont they just create a full left and right breech opening, like *cough* HW... and create ambi stocks for the complete range of springers?!

Logic says, they'd sell double the amount of rifles.

BUT NO. THEY CANT INVEST THE TIME AND MONEY FOR THERE CUSTOMERS, they still have to penalise us for shooting left handed by only doing left hand models in walnut and for an EXTRA CHARGE.

PS. Well, you cant even get it in left.

The bell ends. Utter shit. F'k you AA :D

Mark, you would think so. I for one, would have bought TWO in both .22 and .177 calibres. But no! Despite making 48 that all sold and so, this should tell them of their desirability in a healthy market from the left handed community, the answer is going to be always, NO!

They (AA) state that they made 48 left handed stocks ALL are sold.

SO they are able to respond to demand should they want to, surely it would not hurt their bank account to cater for 1 in 3 rifle men, would it ?

atb Mark

:hmm: When you consider there is no problem at all with producing the TX200 in all-left hand versions. And surely sales of these must indicate an accurate market picture of left-hand customers and our buying preferences?

Or is it to keep us buying the TX200 as a compromise? :hmm:

"You can't have a Pro Sport but how about a lovely TX200 instead sir!

There is a clear practical advantage in having an ambidextrous stock you can shoot from either shoulder when cover and target position dictate Rez. Apart from a healthy market from us left-handers.

But no. The bean counters have all worked out how much the rifle costs to produce and what it can sell for and they won't budge from their position. Build it as cheap as possible. Flog it as dear as possible.

Customers? We are just a pain in the arse to them! That's British business-thinking for you!

Fair points, but surely they could inlet the Superlite stock for a PS action as a pilot [Which could be utterly mint by the way... Just get one of the skilled production boys to stay late one Friday evening...

Director: "You couldn't stay a few hours and inlet this Superlite wood to take the PS action could you Dave? Ill buy you a beer."

Dave: "Yeah sure... been thinking this for years anyway."

What?! And think out of the box like that Jamie?

Unthinkable sir!

I'm at a loss to understand why Weihrauch are not making walnut stocks for their fine guns though. They make some lovely-figured beech stocks for sure, but, the guns would really benefit from the look and feel of fine woods too.

Their HW97K and HW77 would look really lovely in a rich walnut.

I'm not at all a keen fan of those coloured laminated stocks they seem to love producing. But a beautifully figured walnut? Now that's something else!

They're not great answers mate

I work in retail - if I ever have to tell one of my customers 'No, can't be done', I always try to give them another option.

It's a bit poor that they couldn't at least offer to either make a one off at a price or, recommend the possibility of milling out another standard stock to suit.

Good luck with the adaptation though mate - I've no doubt that Jimmy will sort it :good:

Thanks Jon.

The Beech pro Sport stock Jimmy adapted for me is a really superb job. It ticks all the boxes for a left hander like me and has firmly put this amazingly fine rifle, firmly in my hands for the first time ever!

There is a great bonus too in removing the roll over comb on the cheek-piece. It means I can get a lightweight Simmons Pro Air 6-18x40mm scope and sight in my eye relief bang on the true line of sight and this has kept overall weight and balance of the rifle to perfection. It's an honest-to-God beautiful handling rifle overall in this stock and scope combo.

I had a lovely time yesterday out on my range with it.

It's going to be amazing yet stil further, when the walnut stock is finished its conversion. :toast:

I have to say, Jimmy is a true craftsman when it comes to work like this. His finish and attention he puts on the treatment of the wood and attention to function as well as detail is truly awesome. It's incredibly beautiful workmanship you are proud to own. Hands down.
