Why are the running dog lads out lamping now (april)and starting earlier (August) surely killing the game ? Cruelty leaving cubs in the ground to starve has the kill or hunt overcome sportsmanship am I old fashioned? Maybe ! But I feel every specis in our great country needs the time and space to reproduce

How it should be a chilled hare enjoying the spring sunshine.

Even the bunnys need as much help as they can get round my way, no bunnys no sport, let them breed and don't ferret them and maybe have a better season with the dogs come september

Its selfishness plain and simple. Ask why and the reply is usually everyone else is doing it so only mugs dont or I am only getting a young dog started. August is plenty early to get a young dog running spend the summer on the training and recall etc. Also the claim that with climate change breeding happens most of the year it may be the case with some game but the main breeding is still done in spring and summer. Also some pest control needsto be carried out to keepfarmers/landowners happy but mostly that is just trying to justify poor hunting ethics..

Nothing wrong with starting august the season is pretty short and only get till end of feb here. I still knock the odd one over during the summer but in general if I see some thing before the dog which is rare  I will divert him or pop a lead on. I like him to have a run or two though in the day time some times there is no harm and you wont catch much around here in the day. Though some times I will deploy a stop net or let the dog flush it or what ever. All good fun

fair point  , end of august /sep i start there still few daft rabbits about , ok by nov they be used to lamping and become lamp shy even then, but if you got young dog , just try to pick the best rabbit you can for it, all my dogs were young when started ,and it was about end august /sep . yey give the things chance breed, you get posts on here this coming season, and people will be complaining there not enough quarry to go at, and killing in the summer deff not helping any is it .

Terryd ?? Didnt understand your reply ??

he saying they dont all sit they waiting there to be killed , some places rabbits dont hang about , they take bit of catching. Regards foxes even if pre ban they be killed all year round with rifle lads . When i used go beating at few shoots by me, even when the season was over , keepers from different shoots would still go out few nights out shoot few foxes just to keep them down, so when they did start to breed there own birds or buy poults in to put down, he have less foxes as possible adults /cubs makes no difference to them , this i do know as i seen what they killed the day after , if i went round just to chat to him etc that day, and these are the same feckin people who never want a lurcher on there ground !!. me self i always waited about end of august to run my dogs, but there loads like the above, and few dog lads kill any time of the year .!!

Lads still running now have not been educated properly and it's only going to get worse as the younger generation think it's ok to run all year round, the game is shafted now because of people like this it all boils down to no respect for quarry landowners or there dogs boils my piss.A understand if a vixen with cubs causing problems on someone's permission you have to deal with them, but a think everything should be left to breed then you reap the rewards next season just what a think.
