chrismdd 787
With the ferreting season now at an end with a final successful outing last Sunday it was time to keep on top of them with the S410 over the coming months. The last five months had not seen much action with the rifle due to commitments with ferreting, beating and fishing taking priority apart from a half a dozen trips out lamping over the winter. So this evening was really to get my eye back in and see where the rabbit numbers were rising. Decided to try part of a field where we had seen a few out last Sunday whilst ferreting. Got there at 6:30pm only to find the farmer was going round the edge of the field breaking up the topsoil so instead tried a few fields over the road. Plenty of rabbits were about and so settled down in one corner, soon a youngster came out so that was ferret food sorted. Then twenty minutes later an adult came out and this was dropped on the spot and left whilst I awaited for more. Unfortunately I was no the only one out after them as a local cat popped its head up right in my target area, so I picked up the rabbits and took them back to the truck. The first field was now quiet and so decided to give it a go and was pleased to see a good number of rabbits out on the newly cultivated soil. Settled down by a large warren and found a very nice ammonite fossil to take home. Had to wait a good half an hour before one came out in range and this was dropped with a nicely placed shot. The light was fading now so decided to call it a night with just the three this time. 9 Quote Link to post

chrismdd 787
Cheers, good to be back. It had been a bit difficult since last September when tragedy struck. This all started with a knock on the door from a copper late one night asking me whether I knew where my shooting buddy was (the one with the HW100 and we did that pigeon decoying with the fishing brolly stuff). Apparently he had left a note which included among other things about leaving his airguns to me and my son. Well unfortunately late the next day it was found that he had taken his own life in an old barn on one of his permissions. This was a very hard time as we used to fish everywhere and have great adventures (barbel and pike on the Wye, chasing elusive twenties on the Somerset levels, mullet and gilthead bream fishing in Devon). We went to the the very nice natural burial ground for the ceremony in the beautiful South Devon countryside which was a fitting tribute for someone who loved the outdoors and the British wildlife.
