Stoat In A Mole Trap

My mole man was at my farm yesterday and he told me he was trapping with his wife on the weekend and one of the traps his wife set had caught a stoat in it, at first he thought he had caught a white mole when he saw the white but when he pulled the trap there was a stoat in it. Has anyone ever heard or even caught one themselves in a trap?

I had never seen it before, he said his wife will have only set 100 traps in her life and that day she got her first double and a stoat.

Had a weasel in one of my moletraps a month ago ,a mate even had a weasel and mole in the same spot .

The weasel obviously killed the mole just before he entered the trap.

It happens now and again, ..not as common,as catching a weasel, in one , though,......(personally, dont like catching either, when unintended)

I suppose it makes sense, that a weasel would naturally prey on moles.

i only caught two, in over 20 year,... (weasel),....so not too common, for me.

just thinking about it,...must be mainly 'bitch' stoats, being occasionally caught, in mole traps ?,.....i doubt, there can be many , big 'dog' stoats, succumbing in them ?

Strangest catch of ever had, pretty sure no-one put it in as it was a long way off the beaten track, how it got caught like that I'll never know.

 

 

 

Generally get a couple of weasels a year, the odd stoat and occasionally a unlucky vole!
