jiggy 3,209
North Korea are been accused of been a world threat for decades but are only flexing muscle to protect their own little patch and will stay out of other people's business if they stay out of theirs.America are sticking their nose in everyone's business and it will eventually be cut off. They might be the strongest military force but if other countries lump together things will change. China could back Korea and if Russia joined in then we'd see who the biggest bully in the playground is.
Nik_B 3,790
The Russians have had an aircraft shot down by a NATO member, an Ambassador murdered in front of TV cameras, a coup on their border in Ukraine, sanctions and Christ knows what else. Their patience is surely running out and our own leaders are behaving unbelievably arrogant. We are talking about messing with a country with 5000 nuclear missiles I wouldn't worry about a large scale conflict, money rules the world these days not ideology.. A full on war would be bad for business..It depends. If you keep cutting one small strand off a rope every week then it might take time but eventually that rope will break. Embarrass a leader enough times and they will react to save face and not look like a pushover. Where you park your fleet will even be seen as a threat from now on. Seems to me like virtually every country including the US are acting as if they're stronger than they really are to make up for their own economic shortfalls. I don't think anyone's economy could survive a large war now but that doesn't mean it couldn't happen. WW2 happened not that long after the great depression. I hope this is all some kind of silly war of words so everyone can extract themselves without looking stupid but Bojo has just said that Russia will face full economic sanctions if they do not pull out of Syria which just isn't going to happen. We checked the receipts !"
Blackbriar 8,569
So, to summarise thus far - For any Russian leader to show weakness is political suicide - the iron man must not be see to bend....his opposite number in Washington has beautifully painted himself into a corner, and is coming under increasing pressure from opponents and supporters alike......not content with aggravating the Russians, he is setting about trying to intimidate probably the world's most unstable leader, in North Korea...the UN and NATO, traditionally forces for stability, have proved themselves to be impotent, toothless tigers, as a seemingly endless cycle of war rages......anywhere that extremists are defeated, they pop up somewhere else, more vicious and merciless then before.....our allies last year are our enemies this year.......very little, if anything, that we read or hear in the news media can be trusted......politicians of all persuasions are mired in lies, half-truths and 'spin'......political campaigns are manipulated by outside nations, social media by bot networks and sock puppets, spreading disinformation - lies become truth, truth becomes lies. Doesn't fill me with hope for the future......George Orwell, anyone ?

Doesn't fill me with hope for the future......George Orwell, anyone ? I think that that is exactly what this was about. I'm not going to comment on the chemical weapons attack in Syria but whether those 59 Tomahawks were launched legitimately or otherwise, it was done to make a political statement rather than achieve a military goal. That strike said to any US enemy that this Commander in Chief was not afraid to act boldly in sensitive situations. Never mind Iran, Russia or Syria, to me that was a message addressed to Pyongyang. Syria is the stage for all the players to posture. I think the US administration knows the real threat isn't Islamic extremism or middle eastern dictators with little influence. Blackbriar 8,569
TLF....if we only had two minutes of hate a day, the world would be a considerably better place, at a stroke !

There's a lot to be said for that parallel P.S when did 'judeo' suddenly become part of our Christian way of life? I see that phrase used a lot Judeo-Christian refers to the many commonalities of the two religions, as Jesus derived his teachings from Judaism (not surprisingly, him being Jewish). "Abraham's religions" refers to Judaism, Christianity and Islam, where all three religions share commonalities.
