Jonjon79 13,358
Ok, so this is a bit of a tenuous hunting story (and an introduction to my dogs) - I did get out today. I shot 1 pigeon and a few rats. Most of all, I really enjoyed the walk in the warm weather. I was on the land at the big manor house with my shooting buddy and young Harry (the lad that bought my Superten). We had a good long walk round, not stopping in 1 place for long. Harry's doing well so, I decided to act as spotter so that he could get a few as we moved around. As it turned out, the eagle eyed fecker didn't need a spotter. He missed a couple of squirrels but, he took some good shots on a couple of pigeons - it was good to hear the Superten spit, followed by the bird coming down through the branches There was a couple of 'fly and dies' but, there was also a couple of good sized woodies in Harrys game bag He was looking forward to getting them home and breasting them I got my one as it was on the ground, pecking at a newly ploughed veg plot - lasered at 53yrds and, hit with a nice clean shot through the upper wing. It went face down with a small tail wave. By this time my phone had died but, I did manage to get a couple of pictures. ........ One is a free range fecker that I had to get out of my car ........ The other is of a group of deer that we keep seeing 5 Quote Link to post

Jonjon79 13,358
My dogs love it when I bring something home from a hunting trip Being Chihuahuas, they're never going to be hunting dogs But, they are treated like dogs (not handbag accessories) and, I love their big personalities. Believe it or not, these little buggers do need training and discipline to keep them in line. Lilly (the one in my avatar picture) has a very strong personality. I can walk her off the lead and, she'll stay by my side. She'll respond to voice commands and, she's like a little torpedo when she runs through grass. However, when she settles down for the evening, she really doesn't like to be disturbed Frank is the little fella Also well trained and, does exactly as he's told - he does like to wind Lilly up. If playtime ever turns nasty, you can guarantee that this little sneak is the cause of it If I ever put a gutted rabbit on the kitchen floor, Frank is straight in there, nicking the raw liver. Lilly would rather wait for a coocked leg. 2 Quote Link to post
Jonjon79 13,358
When I got home, I breasted out my pigeon and cooked it for these two. They loved it - it's a nice treat for them. They both know the words pigeon, rabbit and pig Not long after, around 6:30pm, we start to get pigeons coming in around our back gardens. ...... one landed on our fence - Lilly knows exactly what it is so, she went for it - it was on a 6ft fence so she had no chance. ..... For the next half an hour, she stood vigil at the back door keeping an eye out for them Quote Link to post
mark williams 7,563
Let them, or one of them - tag along JJ, what`s to lose ? Take Lilly first from what I can see , then maybe both. If things are to big to retrieve, they may well find for you. Good luck mate, and nice post . atb Mark. 1 Quote Link to post

Cheers Mark I'd trust Lilly to come back when when told but, I suspect Frank may be a dark horse - I can imagine losing the little sod down a hole if he starts a chase. ......
