Still a convicted criminal and always will be  7 years sounds about right TBH seeing as he's mentally ill.

These are the sort of posts make me form my opinions of you bgd, so quick to lay the boot into your own people! What am I supposed to think of you other than a treacherous fool?

Mate, that is a disgraceful comment !

He endured hellish conditions, doing a job that you or I wouldn't have the balls to do ourselves. He served his country with great distinction, and has endured his ordeal with fortitude and resolve that most can only dream of....A better man than most of us will ever be !

Ordinarily, he would probably be the first to admit that he made a mistake - but he was not in an ordinary situation.

I, for one, salute him and his good lady wife - both have behaved with grace and dignity throughout this farce !

"Served his country with great distinction"? He brought disgrace on his unit and the forces as a whole and was dishonourably discharged...

proper hero, shooting the wounded

Just like the heros you love who blew up innocent women children and babies .....

Disgraced his unit and the forces as a whole ?!?

I think the widespread support for his cause says differently ! I don't recall a single campaign to keep him in prison - but I do recall, and still see, massive public support for his release...........

I think he did mate, and I know that is also the feeling of some others who are infinitely more qualified than me to have an opinion.

But as I said, time done and he should now be given as much chance as anybody else who has been released from the nick with that conviction.

He has paid his dues in that respect.

I fully understand Socks as a former combat veteran has sympathy for a fellow combat veteran but I think if push came to shove he would admit that this is not the way blokes as good as our armed forces should crack on.

I'm sure Socks was every bit as professional and experienced as his rank reflected and I doubt he would have been happy if any of his blokes had done such a thing.

Jmho

The thing is he has admitted he fukced up did wrong shouldn't have done it ... he hasn't tried to justify what he did hasn't tried to excuse himself ... but he was on his 6th yes 6th tour of Afghanistan which is a hell of a turnaround ... during that time he would have spent more time in training for combat and being in combat than he would have spent just being an ordinary chap and father to his kids ... he was also a platoon sergeant with young troops under his command and he is the first call for any dramas that need sorting out .. so apart from keeping himself alive he is responsible for keeping his young troops alive and deal with his own personal life and that of all his platoons ...I can tell you it's a hell of a responsibility and a massive mental strain ... your a platoon sergeant a mother a father a financial advisor a counceler and still supposed to be a soldier that switches all that off in an instant when the shit hits the fan ... from the time you fly into Afghanistan airspace until the time you fly out of it every second of your life could literally be the last but you cannot show any emotion at any time because your troops depend on you to be the man they look up to to lead them ... you have to have an exterior of Steele even if inside your turning to jelly otherwise your putting the lives of all your troops in danger ... it's a mentally draining and fatiguing time that really cannot be explained unless you've been there and done it .... diminished responsibility ... I should fukcing say so ..........
