The Whole F'ing System Stinks

Recommended Posts

I will try and keep this as brief as poss as i could go on all night with this story, my father-in-law is at home on palliative care, he has been suffering with Parkinsons and Alzheimers for the past six years, he has been in and out of hospital numerous times [ too many to count ] sometimes treat well, sometimes treat like a bag of sh1te, he is 84 and grafted most of his life, paid all his dues and never taken a penny in benefits, at the moment he has carers coming in 4 times a day, he has to be hoisted in and out of bed, has to be fed, changed, and every other thing including having his backside wiped.

Yesterday, the powers that be were due to visit at 2 oclock to asses him and see if the care plan [that by the way took 6 months to set up and kept him in hospital for months were he did not need to be ] needs re assessing.

The plan was for my misses to go round and meet them and go through it all with the mother in law [ who is struggling with all this], the basterds had been round at 10 gang handed, 3 of them, and decided that he was not now as ill as they thought and that she may have to start paying for the care. The hospital had told us he may have 6 days or he may have 6 months, so all of this is supposed to be end of life care.

Another thing worth mentioning is, a few months ago they sent round a speech therapist to help him start talking, funny that as he has not spoken a word in 4 years, a bit late like every thing else they have or have not done, but that is another story.

This morning i had a visit from one of my brothers, i haven't seen him since christmas, he is alcoholic, drinks for breakfast, dinner , tea and every thing in between, he had a major heart opp last year and came out and went straight on the fags and drink, he has not worked for years, he used to be a brilliant joiner, probably one of the best, but he allways worked cash so never paid a penny in dues, he never paid maintenance for his kids, never paid his rents, in fact he has become one of the parasites that i despise. [ but he is still my brother].

He told me this morning that he had just been paid £2,500 back payment for some benefit that he had not been receiving and will now get £150 extra a fortnight, what sort of system gives a alci two and a half grand.

They even told him he was entitled to a free car, fck me he has been banned from driving three times.

NOW TELL ME THE SYSTEM IS NOT f****d

It's becoming an all too familiar story, what disturbs me is how they are now allowing the elderly to run up care bills which are then taken from their estates on passing away. When did that happen? Even being given a special bed or wheelchair now costs money.

Some of the care they give is amazing but it's a lottery. My step-father in law had great end of life care but when he went into hospital before he came home, he ended up with bed sores which is a complete disgrace.

I was talking to a nurse recently and he told me they don't use proper nurses the actual caring they have careers or something....not proper nurses. The real ones spend their time doing paperwork and dispensing drugs.

My dad always said when you come to retire make sure you have nothing in the bank and live in a rented property , that way you will get everything free .

How right he is ,but he is retired and lives in his on house with a fair few quid in the bank

Unfortunately, the care industry has become a 'bottom of the pile' type of job, almost an entry job for the unemployed or unemployable, that's not a slight on genuine good care workers, I know there is plenty out there, I know a couple myself, but like you say......care is a bit of a lottery....

In 2004 my mate was homeless. Had a farm job with a house. Lost his job and home through no fault of his own. He was welcome at mine but stubborn to accept the offer and thaught he would find a place to stay his self. I went to leeds homes place with him. We qued together and there was a foreign person in front of us. He got paid for b and b accomadation. We got there he was given a leaflet for st George's crypt with a verbal warning not to go there as it was very dangerous. What a f***ing discrace to to a British young lad in trouble. It makes me sick 12 years later to have witnessed it. Often think about it even now. In fact makes my piss boil more. I can't believe what I saw. After all these years i still cant believe what I saw. I wouldent have believed it if I hadn't seen it.

its tough going sometime trying to get help, my mother had cancer of the oesophagus and had no choice but to starve to death, macmillian did f**k all to help us out in any way, but we got great help from marie curie. it was hard and we had to fight every step of the way for the help we received from the proffesanals, if it wasnt for charities we would have struggled, couldnt even get a wheelchair from the hospitial had to get one from the red cross.

I was lucky that I had the time to look after my father before he went so I knew he was getting well cared for. I'd like to do the same for my mother as she reaches that age but it depends on getting time off work etc. For me I hope I go while I'm still in good health and never become bedridden.

Get your head around this.

There's a guy in the village I grew up in.

Never worked a day in his whole life.

Allways on benefits loved being on the sick.

He broke his leg and once healing would slam his leg with a lump hammer to re break it.

He then started slamming his foot with the lump hammer breaking his foot.he done it for yrs and yrs

So he could stay on the sick and get a mobility car.

A good few yrs ago the hospital amputated his whole leg.

He is over the moon now.

Free car for life and a lifetime on the sick.

He needs back filling.
