ChrisJones 7,975
What's the general mood over there Chris regarding the Syrian airfeild strike ...fuk yeah! or fuk no? Depending on your demographic it's probably a flip of a coin. I think the biggest upset from his supporters is the fact he bypassed congressional approval. His detractors fear another lengthy engagement in the middle east. As I stated in an earlier post this has McMaster's no nonsense approach written all over it. With Bannon gone he's bringing military experts instead of political journalists... Another good move from team DT.
ChrisJones 7,975
He was very clear on his policy, he was extremely clear on Syria and being non interventionist so yeh he needs to act in the interests of the people who voted for him. If they wanted more war they would have voted for HRC, he should focus on what got him elected, if the Republicans are going to block everything he is wasting him time. No point mentioning her, here, mate. She's nothing more than a has been. If they're looking forward, and they should be, they need to work towards a better America not the proliferation of billionaires.

I think you are wrong about what has upset half of his base, it's not that he should seek congressional approval it's the complete 180 degree turn on an issue many people including veterans believed in. He will get a pass if this is a one off and he focus's on his domestic pledges.
Nik_B 3,790
I also think that it is important to realise that the sentiment that got Trump elected isn't going away any time soon, call it popularism, nationalism or whatever but it is on the rise. It wasn't traditional conservative values that got many people out to vote for him. At the moment I'm more interested in seeing what will happen in some of the European elections given the current mood

The Trump supporters I deal with on a daily basis are more miffed that he bypassed congress than anything on a war footing. Despite the white christian demographic, where I live, they're very openly upset at seeing the pictures of little brown kids being gassed by what they see as a co-op by two nasty axis regimes. I can only go off what I've dealt with. I also think that it is important to realise that the sentiment that got Trump elected isn't going away any time soon, call it popularism, nationalism or whatever but it is on the rise. Mission accomplished. They identify as conservative constitutionalists...

It's pretty obvious to me the Russians made no attempt to shoot them down, why? I have no idea. Russian surface to air missiles are considered to be the best in the world or at very least on a par with US made systems because their military doctrine is focussed on fighting defensively. It's one of the things that seems a bit weird about the whole situation
