Rowan 308
Hi talpa , just realised you gave similiar advice also , with all mass produced traps they cannot be perfect every time. Quote Link to post
CO CHISE 330
I decided to buy a couple of these and first time out with them I nearly threw them into next field. I was wasting too much time trying to set them and when I did manage to set them they had gone of when I checked them. I threw them back into bucket and they went abit rusty and now there a lot easier to set and I've had afew results with them Quote Link to post
earth-thrower 493
If they are new out of the parcel they do have a little oil/grease on them from the manufacturing process, which may make the trigger a bit tricky and ping out. When I get them I secure triggers with bird spring wire and slosh them in a bucket of water for a couple of days, then hang them up in bunchs for a few days. This gets rid of the slipperiness. When you are setting them make sure you have the prongs of the trap in the notch of the setting tool or pliers - if they aren't the prongs are out of alignment and the twist they have makes the trigger ping out as they true themselves to the correct position. Check the setting tool/pliers don't have a twist on them that causes the prongs to be out of alignment as it might be them not you. I had been won over by Traplines a few years ago and loved them, but the price got daft when Killgerm got the sales rights. I have now transferred my loyalties to Putanges. Like all things there are a few new things you need to think about when setting but once you find the way they are virtually foolproof, as I am proof of. Good post, mate ,....( im not gonna bother, with them,....just cause everyone else , is !,....i like to do things , the hard way ha ha),.......i still dont 'forget' the bit o advice,(unofficial like ,....cause i cant be seen , too be seeking guidance, of course ! , ha ha ha),....... (& encouragement) you provided, regarding them 'traplines' ? (when i couldnt get a decent 'half-barrel ),.....really pulled me out of a hole, (big learning curve, though),...& in the end , ended up with a 'capture rate', too rival the 'duffus' ? (for me) Quote Link to post
smithie 2,443
The thing with the frenchi is anybody can use it as it's so simple.. 1 Quote Link to post
Rowan 308
I've made a living from using Duffus and talpex , with the occasional use of Traplines , but the price of traplines i believe is now ridiculous. Hence the reason for trying out the Putagnes , time will tell . Quote Link to post

I know there's alot a lads on here who do use them and catch well with them...different horses & all that. I just reckon those two i mentioned are pretty solid traps to get on with but like everything its trial and error really. if ya needing pointers drop us a pm or im sure plenty on here dont mind offering some advice to ya. Rowan 308
Any tips for trapline rowan? Yes mate , i crimp a short length of wire rope ,( the 1.2mm stuff) only a couple of inches long , to the trap and form a small loop the other end , again with a copper crimp .This gives you a fixing point to hold the trap in place , a wire peg can hold it in place through the crimped loop. Plus the trap needs to be bedded in , slightly angle/push the the jaws of the trap into the tunnel . This helps stop the mole moving the trap up and out off the way. Stops alot of soiling up and foul catches. A very esay to use and discreet trap . Plus a hundred way next to nothing. Quote Link to post

Agree mate , duffus the first choice , Talpex on the odd occasion a duffus gets soiled up , or for deeper runs , But the trapline definately has a place . I've used them particularly in public places and schools/ playing fields. Quote Link to post
