Jonjon79 13,358
Shooting JJ atb Mark Cheers Mark ...... I'm now wondering how I can get them groups smaller ...... I'd love to be able to take a confident snap shot when I'm on a wander. Quote Link to post
mark williams 7,558
Practice as you are Jon, you`ll only get better and better. I listened to a video of Si Pitterway`s after years and years of just " doing it my way". He teaches the army`s thoughts on stance, " artillery hold" I think it was called ? Anyways it improved me with the lighter rifles but it`s harder (for me) with the T Rex for instance, free standing. , from a solid rest, freestanding is a " different story" though . As you know, most of my air gun hunting involves hides, concealment and solid platforms to shoot from atb Mark p.s. Good respectful groups by the way Jon. 2 Quote Link to post
.357shooter 1,231
sorry have no idea of your experience but you could try a few things. reduce mag on scope, try 10x if above take the shot quicker the longer you take the more you will wobble could try holding the cross hairs above the target and slowly bring them down onto the bull or start from the left of target and bring across to the bull or try it from the right.basically whatever suits you also try standing with your rifle in position but with your eyes closed and see where you are pointing and adjust your lead leg to bring you on target ie move it 10deg left or right if you know all of this allready then just practice at home with your rifle and get that muscle memory 1 Quote Link to post

Thanks Mate, I think the artillery hold is to lightly support the rifle in the forward hand. ..... I'll happily admit that, after a few shots, it's a b*****d to do with the TX. The 97 does feel easier - I'm still not sure if that's because of the weight or fit of the rifle I'll keep trying Quote Link to post

I only really hunt - usually off a bipod or sticks but, I do like to test myself with standers at targets. I'm not really confident enough to take a totally unsupported shot on quarry yet - maybe one day. One of the tips that I've found most useful so far came from you and Barrel on BBS - 'Don't hang around, take the shot when it's on'. I'll certainly give the eyes closed/leading leg technique a try Atb 1 Quote Link to post

Do it mate I might be able to match your feckin bags if you start shooting left handed Been out for an hour tonight jon and only managed the one but it was a corker at 42 yards. Been practising this week at 40 and 45 yards with hatty and it seems to have worked. As for the big bags, I'm just usually in the right place at the right time I think, plus plenty of coneys to go at? Regarding accuracy, I have found that with the hatsan being light, the artillery hold is spot on but I have added a little tweak that seems to bring the groups tighter. Everything is the same with the hold, light hold or rest on the fore end and just touching the shoulder with the butt. As for the trigger hand, I have found that thumb up and applying a gentle squeeze forwards with the thumb as the trigger is squeezed and try to avoid any pressure on the pistol grip with your 3 remaining fingers has brought my groups right down nice and tight. Not sure how that will work with a heavier rifle but it's doing the job for me pal.? 1 Quote Link to post
