Trolley

Does anyone out there in longnet land use some form of trolley. I have two 100yd quickset with baskets and all. They are so heavy you end up making so much noise carrying them that i through some form of trolley might be a help.

 

How on earth do you chaps run 300yds to 400yds without killing yourselfs.

it stands to reason that having a basket and 22 poles is going to be heavy for 100yrds of net, let alone a few hundred yrds. this is why the baskets i have made and sold are lighter in their build as well as being made from a jig that allows you to use one back and carry upto 3 baskets.

 

as for a trolly would that not be more of a hassle on the rough ground that we have to cover? another reason why i use hazle, nice and light. dont you use the trad set nets?

Thanks for reply molecatcher. Do use traditional nets most of the time because its alot easier to carry the nets and make less noise. In my mind they seem to run out quicker as well but thats just me.

 

Interested in this basket that you mentioned, don't understand the bit about the jig and been able to carry three baskets????

PS thinking about scrapping the fibre glass poles and using hazle to cut wait and noise.

was thinking the same mate, out on sunday trying to lug a box of ferrets, me quickset basket, me bag of purse nets and locators stuff, and a shovel gets me aching, something along the lines of a fishing trolly, big wheels to handle the fields etc, may not be able to use it on every occassion, but if it was used sometimes it would be a help, plus on the way back with 20 rabbits or so

Have you boys thought of using an old golf trolley,im planning to convert one for ferreting carrying the ferrets purse nets etc in round plastic tubs that can stack up on top of each other.poles spade etc can be strapped up the side.i will post some pics when i get it made.

Be a pain having to put a pound coin in every time you wanted to go out! Sorry.

The only way round that is take more guys when i go out myself ferrets and a bag of fifty nets more stuff and its up to four guys that come depending on the ferreting job

I have had similar problems with my stuff too.

 

I attached some bungees to the front of my ferret box and put 12 hazels pole through. So where ever the box goes I have a min of 12 poles.

 

I have a large game pag that I carry two 25yrd stop nets and a smaller game bag with 50 or so purse nets. The locator and collars are also in the larger game bag.

 

The only thing left to carry in my hand is the spade.

 

Turn up at a warren and can zip about with the purse nets out of the smaller bag, or deploy the stop nets as I see fit.

 

Works well for me anyway.
