How Times Have Changed

Recommended Posts

Was chatting with a man earlier this eve that i done a lot of digging for years back, mid 80s early 90s and he asked me did i still keep the terriers.I said i did and will do until i can no longer bring them out to work them.He said that when he 1st came to know me that he used to see the terriers running lose about my yard and that when he passes by now all he ever see's is a golden retriever[not mine] grandsons but stays with us.I explained to him that things are not like what they were 30 odd year ago, nowadays terriers are locked away for there own good for fear of been stolen,at this he was amazed, who would bother stealing a mans dog.I then told him all of mine were stolen around 2000-2001 and he could not take it in.He told me to give him a shout next season when we start up again as he has another farm now for me to do and i was more than happy to say yes,he then said his goodbye's and off he went.Just sitting here at home tonight it got me thinking of the way life was not that many years ago,up on a sunday morning,1 or 2 terriers lying at the step of the house door, bite to eat and away hunting for the day, back home that eve and both terriers and yourself fed and terriers cleaned and seen to if needed and then left to themselves with usually an open hayshed or something simular to shelter in but 9 times out of 10 it was the step of the door they would lay for the night, next morning nipping at the postman or chasing the neighbour as he passed by on his bicycle, how times have changed and not for the better imo.
