neil cooney 10,416
Well not mine anyways, LOL. I went for a ramble this morning as it was getting bright bringing a couple of terriers with me. In the second field here was a large dog fox rooting so I crouched down behind an upright girder that was a gate post and started calling using my hand. The two terriers were loose in front of me. I wasn't expecting this fox to come as it's well lamped country but he flew to me. One terrier was having a good sniff around and the other was standing looking at me wondering what the hell I was doing. They were about 20 foot from me and the fox came within 30 or so foot of them. He took a piss and then stood watching them. He couldn't see me but could see the terriers. He was watching them intently and it was only when one of the terriers winded him did he bolt for it. The terriers took off after him . Thanks to the frost I could follow them for 3 fields before I met them coming back. I was going to bring the lurcher and am glad now I didn't. Have a nice day. 8 Quote Link to post

neil cooney 10,416
seen somthing similar the weekend do you think its the time of year and a testosterone thing neil I wouldn't think so. I'd say the fact he couldn't see me and the terriers weren't looking at him he felt safe. Funny enough on the same farm a few years ago I witnessed an amazing piece of animal behavior . It was a hot Summers day and I was sitting on a gate looking across the fields. The only dog I had with me was a small but racey Pit Bull bitch called Pepper. Across the field there was a Hare going about her business and she spotted Pepper and came over to investigate. She couldn't see me on the gate and Pepper spotted her and took of after her. I stayed on the gate and after a few minutes I could see Pepper coming back to me and around 100 yards behind her the Hare was following . As Pepper got to me the Hare came to her and took her away again. She was playing with my Pit Bull, LOL. I was Beagling last week and mentioned this to a couple of seasoned Beaglers and they told me that's it not unusual for a Hare to go under a gate oblivious to people sitting on it. 1 Quote Link to post

Fox pissed off when I approached them. Edited March 7, 2017 by Mary 2 Quote Link to post
