Iv been toying with the idea of thermal or night vision monocular, is it a lot of messing about? Obviously you got lamp dog and then trying to spot through a monocular?
you get used to it mate walk into a field look through the night vision on a cord round your neck nothing in that field on to the next until you spot your quarry get as close as you feel necessary lamp on slip dog and away you go I've done it with two dogs one on a slip the other round my waist

ile get me coat,,, ,,i could buy 5 vans for that ,,in fact this last one cost me £270 with 8 month test on it,,

Amazes me that people would commit hari-kari before paying 4-500 hundred quid for a well bred pup yet they would pay £3k for night vision lol..If you ain't got the dog for the job your thermal imaging

They still put the lamp on and slip the dog when in position so you still get the chase ect so it's still technically lamping. When they give the dog night vision glasses and you don't need a lamp tha

I didn't realise they was this popular and like you say for somewhere that is hot they are ideal, worth investing then ? 3000 is a bit out of my price range to be honest can you recommend any lower range ones or is it worth shelling out big bucks for these type of things

To be honest mate at first I was going to buy one of them hand held things seek reveal for £500 from the game fair but after speaking to the fella selling them and fair play to him said they were not for us and pointed us in the direction of scottcountry to look at there thermal imagers they can also be used in the day for spotting quarry laid low in a field same as anything you get what you pay for well worth the money though

What sort of range have they got ?

1800 yards have a look on YouTube pulsar xq50 thermal night vision

That's some range, a neighbour was selling a monocular years ago for £ 100, i had the idea to use it for lamping, don't think it had much of a range on it though, must have been a far more basic bit of kit to what you are using

Think I might have to invest in one, has it made significant difference to your lamping?

That's very good to hear. You used the FLIR scout monocular? Or tried a night vision monocular in comparison? Thanks
