Jonjon79 13,358
I dropped into my favourite RFD yesterday to pick up little 'uns Goldstar se - it's had some work done because it was misbehaving It's back now and good as new. Even though it was out of warranty, there was no charge for the work ........ Paul at Wiltshire Shooting Centre is an absolute diamond Anyway, while I was there, I thought I'd better spend some money So, I bought some O rings for the bottle on the Superten and some targets - Then I noticed that he's started stocking Crossman Piranha pellets. - the image on the tin shows a nasty looking hollow point pellet. The .177s weigh 10.5gn - I bought a tin to try in the GSX100. 2 Quote Link to post
Jonjon79 13,358
I've recently been sorting out my shooting box and, I found some pellets that I'd forgotten were in there So, this morning, I gave some heavyweights a go....... - JSB Heavy 10.34gn (My default pellet) - Weihrauch Magnum 10.4gn - Crossman Piranha 10.5gn Again, nothing too scientific - a full mag of 17 shots into each target while taking chrono readings. ..... 30yrds, indoors, rested. 3 Quote Link to post
Jonjon79 13,358
To be honest, I wasn't too impressed with the Piranhas. They were rough to cycle and, I can imagine them opening up more at longer ranges. The Weihrauch Magnums did well though. They turned out to be a close match for the JSBs. I reckon these are worthy of more testing ..... Their grouping was slightly tighter and, they gave less variation over the chrono ...... Maybe I've found a better pellet Crossman Piranha: Lowest - 660fps Highest - 669fps Average from 17 shots - 662fps / 10.22ftlb Weihrauch Magnum: Lowest - 680fps Highest - 686fps Average from 17 shots - 682fps / 10.74ftlb JSB Heavy: Lowest - 679fps Highest - 692 fps Average from 17 shots - 685fps / 10.78ftlb At the moment, I'm not impressed with any of the chrono readings - I'd like to see the JSBs and Weihrauch Magnums giving more like 710fps. Thankfully, I have a way of sorting it but, I'll save that for another thread 3 Quote Link to post
si brown 8,486
got to admit that the jsb heavy's have been the most consistent heavy pellet I've used and accuracy is spot on! when I'm back on the rabbits ill prob go back to them but at the mo I'm well happy with the h&n hunter extremes.. the piranha's look a good alternative, the bloke in the local shop reckons crossman pellets are ace and there all he uses! nearly out of the metalmags now jon, for a gimmick pellet there devastating.. it fcuked everything you shot and what a whack, more savage than the 22's in the cat, but I'm off back to n/v on the cat cos the 510 weighs a ton and freehand spotting is about as enjoyable as having your bollox jumped on when you and your mate off out next?! atb si 2 Quote Link to post
Jonjon79 13,358
when you and your mate off out next?! Not sure yet mate - we're both really busy with work at the moment We went for a wander a week ago - exploring more of the big permission. It was so windy that there was f**k all about. Huge branches were snapping off the trees We found a painball skirmish area deep in the woods and, I found another good warren ...... I might go back for that soon with little 'un - I know we can both be quiet and patient Bottom of these trees, I found about 8 holes Quote Link to post
Rowan 308
Very interesting mate , thanks for taking the time to put down all your findings, happy hunting 1 Quote Link to post

villaman 9,983
In my two .177 pcp the JSB heavies are running @ 715 on average with 5FPS spread The JSB heavies looks the best group out of the three and i imagine they will be the best out to 60 yards as well 2 Quote Link to post

villaman 9,983
I used them all the time until i found AA express 7.9gr ,now these are the best pellet i have found ,even at long range , great hunting pellet Quote Link to post
Greyman 28,852
Bit different but my AA pcp loves logun penetrators I,ve even used them in an 18ftlb 177 and they are still great they look like the right one in your picture, bit more expensive than most but still a lot cheaper than any other form of ammo Quote Link to post
