A Good Price For Dressed Rabbits.

Recommended Posts

I have not had too many rabbits this season and have let a lot of my old customers down , one of them rang me last week and asked if could get him a dozen or more market dressed doe rabbits , I first rang a mate in Kings Lynn and he said that he would keep twenty of the best back and meet me half way on Tuesday , i then made my own plans to add to the catch . I set off to a village on the Leices, Northants border, i took a dozen traps an a few snares the area to be worked was a large grass hill with plenty of open sets and a large gorse bank on the south side which seemed alive with rabbits , the first morning produced four rabbits in the traps and nine in the snares this gave me eleven saleable doe rabbits , I reset the traps and tweaked the snares a bit and when i got there yesterday there were five in the traps and twelve in the wires the last rabbit in the traps was foul caught, the first one i have ever had in a Juby and it was a big old buck and not injured so i gave him a pass, this gave me another thirteen rabbits, i dressed all the rabbits this morning and my Mrs took them up the pub at a fiver each .

The best price i have ever had and worth every penny. I look forward to ferreting this place next season when i am a bit more mobile and have one of my kids to help.

It is a good price

As above. Thats a great price to get per rabbit, but like been said, the work that goes into it, time, effort and diesel, its actually a fair price. Well done, hope you make it a regular thing.

It is a good price but i still think that you would only break even at eight quid , like Tomo said they make two portions out of a rabbit ar 18 /20 quid a pop and they still have the front end , head ,and liver , these bits go into game pies , pate , and soups , these people are very good at what they do and i don't begrudge them a living but what gets to me is that there is never anyone there to pay me

Great price , i still only get a £1 in their jackets.

The lads i Know in Kings Lynn get £2 for clean rabbits in their jackets , i paid them £2. 50. because they were dropped off at Wansford . Them boys at Lynn have land what most of us can only dream off.

I've seen dressed wild rabbits in vacuum bag in Coles supermarket $22 aust.Restuarants in my area( country nsw),can't source enough(reckon they have better flavour than farmed, and tourists wan't a taste of the country) but can't buy off hunters due to processing laws.At those prices my dogs and ferrets are eating like kings, but I hate eating them, love hunting them.

That's a dam good price ,my permissions are only producing enough for me to give away to pals and folks that have had freebies from me for years sadly no surplus for the game dealer . Not to worry as long as I can get a few and keep my ferrets happy.

Been back to the hill this morning hoping to set some snares but they must have moved sheep onto it yesterday evening , i went over the top to the arable side and the hedge was buzzing with rabbits and the field was covered in runs for hundreds of yards i don't what had been set but it seemed to have been seeded through the stubble , i think that the runs were just to get to the other side. i tried a peg out on the tilth but it was a waste of time i really needed hoop snares but i aint got any so that was that , i was going to set them on the headland where the soil was firmer but i would only have knocked over milky does so home it was.
