Allan P 1,150
Mate I used to work with from Norway having proplems with Pine Martin. He's had some success but is now struggling. He says there loads of footprints around but no success for the last few months any ideas ? Edited February 28, 2017 by Allan P Quote Link to post
Torquemada 288
Bearing in mind they are a protected species in the UK I will be very surprised if anyone's got any tips on how to trap them. Quote Link to post

Hydropotesinermis 724
They are a mustelid aren't they? Would it be like trapping a big arboreal stoat? Quote Link to post
Allan P 1,150
I understand they are protected in the UK but there are people on this forum from outside of Britain. No big deal just thought someone might have some tips for him because I don't have a clue about trapping and snaring. Quote Link to post
Bobba_fett 117
i've caught 3 in the same spot by accident in big fox cages before with a road kill pheasant. released unharmed i might add. I've also set out to get photos of them on my trail cam with just a rabbit leg as bait. they same pretty bold by nature. 4 Quote Link to post
Allan P 1,150
He's using a Syningsfella trap? This is set inside a box and placed 2 metres up a tree. He's says he's using dead birds and honey as bait? I'm no expert but maybe honey as bait is not the best? I've told him change bait and move the traps just trial and error really. I will pass on info to him about fox cage. Quote Link to post
Hydropotesinermis 724
I'b be trying something meaty like a rabbit leg as mentioned, maybe pilchards? Quote Link to post
Hydropotesinermis 724
Never even attempted to trap a pine Marten in my life but it works for mink. Quote Link to post

I will pass on info to him about fox cage. Honey is one of most popular baits for Marten in Europe. A lot of guy's swear by it. He may need a change up though. What about getting a lure from the US. A small jar goes a long way, and has great pulling power. If not, maybe try some fish. Great smell off fish, especially the tinned stuff, and believe me, marten love their fish too. Aussie Whip 4,097
I saw a trapper in Canada on tv set a leg trap on a branch resting against a tree with meat bait hanging above on a string.Seemed to be catching them ok. Quote Link to post
