patterdale 674
There's no set standard size, every car/jeep different size&shape, so build one that works best for your vehicle, making sure the dogs are comfortable and got room. 3 Quote Link to post

Atb JEKmy 1one was made to go into te boot of a car so the back was angles at the same angle as the back seat with 2 doors which opened down very easy really, treated with fence stain then after it dried I threw a few handfuls of wood shavings in for the dogs to be comfortable 2 Quote Link to post
jiggy 3,209
Let the sides, front and back of box run a couple of inches over the top and it will be a handy shelf for collars and leads. 2 Quote Link to post
RTurlough 160
I made one the other week. Came out as a great wee job. Handy in the boot of a car, handles for lifting into a pickup and does bigger terriers too if out with mates dogs. Edited February 23, 2017 by RTurlough Quote Link to post
RTurlough 160
Peg for door changed for a carabiner in case dogs knock it out in transit. Go for marine ply, far better. Do you see the small L-shaped brackets there in the botttom corners......cost about £3-4 each. Great job in protecting the box as it gets the shite knocked out of it during loading and unloading. I used T-hinges, cost next to nothing, about £5 for two. Word of advice, pick a jigsaw up for about £24, allows brilliant cuts and corrections to the wood and great for doing the vent at the front. If you use the marine ply you do not have to worry about building a frame as this wood is solid stuff. The more expensive of woods £30 for a large sheet about 5 feet by 5 feet but see with the jigsaw you will make a box that lasts a lifetime. Print yourself a terrier silhouette off google, cut out the shape and paint over with black paint (I used stove paint) if you want to gucci it up a bit. RTurlough 160
oh and just be wary on the corners, watch screws don't overlap or be so close they compromise the structure of the wood. Pre-drilling holes with a bit 2mm smaller than the screws is a great way to stop the wood splitting. Quote Link to post
stop.end 4,082
And drill a few extra holes as that mesh opening wouldnt be wide enough to give terriers air . Quote Link to post
RTurlough 160
Holes are drilled in each of the sides. That vent is as wide as any I have seen, ample air space lad. Edited February 23, 2017 by RTurlough Quote Link to post
stop.end 4,082
sorry fella... my mistake...I didn't see the holes drilled into the side of the boxes... But I still think the mesh vent was too small and centered..in stead of maybe a mesh vent in each partition... still a good job though. Quote Link to post
