I have a 12 month old patterdale bitch and would very much appreciate some advice on how to start her on the rats, i have took her out once but she doesn't seem to take much interest

to be honest with you mate,you dont have to take her out with other dogs :no:

just take her to a place where she will find rats :yes: .

being a terrier most will take to rats as long as long as the chance is put before them.

it may take a while to click,but there shouldent be a problem ;)

Just like tawny says get her to a place with plenty of rats about once she sees them flying about she will probably dive straight in only ever seen one terrier that wouldnt do rats,there is plenty rats around our local allotments at moment so if you have got any nearby ask for a bit of permission as long as the dog is okay with livestock most allotment holders will want rid of the rats id also make sure they havent got any poison down some of the stuff these old timers pull out a tin from back of the shed would kill bears.

catch one in a live catch cage trap and let her see it she will eventually get hyped up by it then release it when she is wound up.usually does the trick.always keep her winning

Get the dog at it with a mock toy if need be.. by building up it's motivation for it and by mimmicking a rats movements with it half cupped in your hand. Once the dog "Wants" it then fix some words in it's memory bank ("whatsdat/Ratssssss") whilst playing with it. Next news find some squirrells local to you (they never fail to get a terrier at it). If it bolts for the squirrells then it will be up for the rats. If you've got no permission or do not know other people that go ratting frequently then train your dog to heel and tread lightly and you should soon kop for some offside. Good luck.

please tell me it's a wind up :laugh::laugh::laugh: or aint it :icon_eek::icon_eek::icon_eek:

f*****g hell's bells :no::no:

on what charge?

iff you dont know now mate you'll never kow will you ??????

tawny i think you will find that catching a rat in a trap is perfectly legal and releasing it is perfectly legal so if the dog gets wound up seeing it in a trap then again i ask what charge ?i did not say let the dog have it but the next time it sees arat it will be in its memory .always worked for me
