Richard Collett 102
So I have put her back together tonight...when I say put her back together, she 98% complete, only noticed a shim had slipped out when screwing the barrel pin back in place.lol and the fecking little bolt that goes in the trigger has been a pain in the arse so will have to sort that out tomorrow now. I checked to see if she cocks and locks into place and took a few test shots and things seem ok. Just need to put that shim back in place and get the trigger guard screwed into place properly. I didn't put any power washer in, didn't bother with the metal piston sleeve either. I'll chrono her tomorrow and see roughly what she's putting out ft/lb wise and I'll know to add washers when I shim and bolt back in place. These are a pain in the arse to work on in comparison to my HW77, or should I say this ones a pain in the arse. The bolt that locks the barrel in place must take ages to screw in. Crack on again tomorrow and finish the re build grrrrrrr. Haha Quote Link to post
Richard Collett 102
I have been able to fire some shots over the chrono, I realise the spring needs some pellets putting through before it beds in, but ATM I'm getting between 735 - 745 FPS what's about 10:30ft/lb. question is when I take it apart tonight to add the bits that's need adding. Do I put a power washer in or leave it as it is bearing in mind it's a .177 and could become jumpy?? Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
I doubt you will find much difference with power washers mate, they seem to make bugger all difference in a 99, but do report back, your findings may be different, I take it you went with the standard seal and did not buy a Vortek? ATM Ive stuck with the standard seal but in due course I'll be looking at replacing that as well as a barrel cut and thread. 1 Quote Link to post
Richard Collett 102
Thought I would do a 10 shot string over the chrono and show what power she's putting out consistanly. #1 738FPS 10.16ft/lb #2 740FPS 10.21ft/lb #3 736FPS 10.11ft/lb #4 742FPS 10.29ft/lb #5 735FPS 10.09ft/lb #6 744FPS 10.32ft/lb #7 745FPS 10.34ft/lb #8 738FPS 10.16ft/lb #9 738FPS 10.16ft/lb #10 739FPS 10.19ft/lb So the lowest reading was 735FPS and the highest was745FPS so 10FPS max spread over 10 shots, so she's not shooting at max power but a level I'm more then happy with. Once the spring beds in I'm hoping she puts out a little bit more power but becomes slightly more consistent...maybe 5FPS spread. 2 Quote Link to post

Rez 4,957
Just v-mached me 98. To my surprise, after a tin, was way low at 9.8. I'm using hunters mind at 10.6gn. One washer, 10.5 with the hunters now. Got a text from the pigeons just yesterday... "we've moved on" Quote Link to post

Cheers mate, I plan to strip her at the weekend, I read about power problems in the .177 HW99 and adding washers caused them not to cock. While I have her in bits again I'll give it a try and post the results....10.8 - 11.2 was the range I was aiming for. When it comes to selling her you'll be my first pm 1 Quote Link to post

Don't worry Great post Richie. 1 Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
What that needs now is a correctly sized Vortek piston seal, adding washers will have little or no effect, adding a far more efficient piston seal, in my experience with 99s will, or a .22 barrel (much as I hate to say it) Quote Link to post

Richard Collett 102
Silly question time...I'm having problems getting both shims in place when connecting barrel pivot point. one of them has a slight nick and it's stopping both fitting it. I no it works with just one shim in, if I grease the side without a shim on will that be enough over time or will I have to order a new shim? Quote Link to post
